Mayim Bialik started off festivities with a social media post (see below), followed shortly after by Kaley Cuoco. The entire cast and producers arrived shortly after.
The event started with the fans being able to watch an episode before the panel would come up and be ready for discussions. Rene Reyes, Director of Public Programs at The Paley Center for Media welcomed the fans to The Big Bang Theory Paley Fest event. The moderator for tonight’s panel is Alie Ward from Cooking Channel’s Alie & Georgia.

First question was what is Penny’s last name. Kaley Cuoco replied that she has in her mind a maiden name for Penny but “it is Hofstadter now and will forever be.” Cuoco and Johnny Galecki then talked about their first “I Love You” scene and how touched they were and how Molaro admitted crying when it was filmed.
Jim Parsons said that he and Mayim [Bialik] playing Sheldon and Amy having sex for the first time “felt very, very right.” Bialik then added “it felt like we were joining the rest of humanity.” Parsons admitted he never thought Sheldon would ahve sex on the show and looks forward to doing it again like Sheldon. “I learned how to do pillowtalk.” Molaro had in mind a ghost advising Sheldon and having the sex fall on Amy’s birthday so he could say “I look forward to next year.” Parsons attributes the writers for the organic progress Shamy have made.
"I can't wait to be back in bed again" –

Simon Helberg was asked advice he would give Howard about fatherhood. Helberg says he wishes Howard would give him advice. His advice was “don’t shake the baby.” He hopes the baby does not end up actually multiples (twins) because that means four babies on set and he already has two at home. Helberg admits it s hard to explore these ideas on a sitcom, such as having children, but the writers know how to do it. He hopes the writers will make Hoard a good father and he is blown away every time he opens a script. Chuck teased that perhaps the baby will be Danny DeVito!
Kunal Nayyar interrupted and commented on how the cast does not know in advance what is going to lie ahead in the scripts to which Parsons teased him that he was answering a quesiton that no one asked.
The panel clarified that Melissa Rauch, who was absent tonight from the group, is in New York City as she will be on Late Night with Stephen Colbert tomorrow evening, and that is why she was unable to attend.
Nayyar talked about the process he goes through for them to straighten his naturally curly hair. Molaro teased that Raj quite possibly spends an hour every morning on his hair. Helberg joked “they straighten ALL of Kunal’s hair, from the head all the way down.”
Asked why the show is so successful and Cuoco replied “You’re seeing it right now, the great relationships between us.” She continued teasing how they give each other a hard time but that they love each other a lot.
Bialik admitted that she cried when she met Adam West, the “Batman of her youth.”. The writers had already written some scenes for him and were happy when the 200th episode came about and they could resurrect those scenes. West was supposed to be on the show in Season 8, but scheduling conflicts did not permit them to continue with the episode at that time. So when the 200th came around, they were able to use those scenes and Molaro attributes it to “like finding money in your coat.”
Fans are going to be excited to learn that they will soon get to meet Leonard’s father. Judd Hirsch will be playing Mr. Hofstadter. Galecki met Hirsch at the Tribute to James Burrows and is a huge fan of Hirsch’s. He had watched Taxi while preparing for the Big Bang pilot. Galecki asked Hirsh if he would be interested in playing his father on the show and Hirsch was excited by the idea. Galecki immediately text’d the writers the next morning with the proposition.
Molaro said they did not plan for the 200th and were starting to wonder if they really needed to do something special. At the last minute they remember that Sheldon’s birthday was a year prior and that it was that time of year for his birthday again. They grabbed onto the idea from there. Bialik said filming the party helped make it feel more celebratory.
Ward then asked the panel how they all play “geniuses or hot people”. Cuoco seemed amused by the question. Helberg joked he was “hired to play a hot person.”
The cast admitted that fans are not afraid to come up and greet them.
Cuoco admits that since the pilot first aired, it has been her dream to see Leonard and Penny get married. Nayyar then piped up and teased “Heyt ever since Raj met Penny, he thought he was going to make out with her too.” He was reminded by the others that he indeed experienced that to which Nayyar said “Raj’s dreams lived and died that day.”
Cucoc started to talk about being in the second half of their run to which Parsons interrupted and said she is being “very optimistic,” joking about the show lasting 18 years.
The panel was asked if they have dreams for their characters to which Nayyar said “Raj is dating two women, so he’s good.” He then went on and teased “Maybe three women.” Helberg replied “Season 18.” Parsons said that he can never think of anything for Sheldon that can possibly compare to what the writers have come up with for his character.
Molaro praised the cast, saying that they can put any two fo them in a scene and it’s already halfway to being awesome.
Galecki said he enjoyed the sexy carrot outfit.
Bialik said she normally does not read the script until the morning after they get it, but did read the one with Shamy sex the night they received the script and it was a taping night. Parsons was on his way to film a scene when Bialik stopped him to ask if he had read the script yet and told him what was going to happen. Both Bialik and he did not see “coitus” as coming (pun intended) according to Parsons. Parsons does not want to wait another year before their “next time.”
Lorre admist that he still gets nervous before every taping, wondering if the audience will laugh or not. Changes are made on the spot. “There’s something magical about what happens in front of an audience” he continues. He said that sometimes the audience will tell the writers with their silence that they are wrong. “You can hear the 134 freeway” Lorre teases whent he audience does not laugh. [Note: the 134 Freeway is in Burbank near where Warner Bros. tapes. on the WB lot.] Parsons then interjects “The writers don’t get the credit they deserive. It’s hard as hell to do an episode every week.” Galecki agreed adding “It’s like reinventing the wheel every week.”
Lorre continued saying how the audience taught them early on about the characters and how vulnerable they were. The audience made sure to let the writers know when the characters were not being taken care of, or if the show was getting to risque.
The panel was asked about the characters and why they wear so many layers of clothing. Nayyar teased it is “because they have to hide how fit they are.” Bialik says they actually go through the seasons with their clothes and if they wear coats or not. Parsons admits he never noticed. He said he has to wear a jacket when he leaves “every damn time.”
Parsons and Nayyar are both into fantasy football and talk a lot about it on set. Parsons once noticed that Sheldon’s computer actually has internet and put a football game on to play while they were filming a long scene.
Most of the cast are not into comics. Bialik and Galecki are. Bialik was raised with a “full spectrum” of comics.
Someone in the audience asked the actors to act out their favorite movie scene…which led to pandamonium.
Will we ever get to meet Sheldon’s nephew? The writers don’t really have an answer for that other than “fans will have to watch and see.”
A fan asked Cuoco if she has a dress she can borrow for prom. Nayyar asks her if she needs a date too.
And that is a wrap. A full clip of the panel should be available within the next few days and we will link you to it or embed it here as soon as it becomes available.
We wish to thank Emmy4Mayim, JimParsons_Source, Jessica Radloff, Natalie Abrams, Rob Moynihan, The Paley Center, Dolby Theater and Big Bang Buzz for helping provide information we are reporting throughout the evening! Thank you all!

I’m going to be super honest right now–sometimes it’s hard to be happy for people when they have success you want for yourself. As an actor, I run into this all of the time. But here’s the thing about a real deeply connected friendship: you are so happy for the other person’s success, even if you crave it for yourself.
This is how it is with MelissaRauch, who plays Bernadette on “The Big Bang Theory” with me. She co-wrote and is starring in her very own movie called “The Bronze,” and it comes out this Friday, March 18. It got huge rave reviews when it premiered at Sundance Film Festival–it is simply a powerhouse of a movie.
I excitedly interviewedMelissa about some of the things I wanted to know about the actual process of making a movie–particularly one about a former bronze-medal-winning gymnast who has to come to terms with her new life as a trainer of the next hot gymnast, with a chip on her shoulder and a potty-mouth that is as hysterical as it is startling.
Tell me in a nutshell what “The Bronze” is about.
“The Bronze” is about Hope Ann Greggory, a female gymnast who has been milking small town fame from her Bronze medal victory for way too long. She’s really stuck in a rut when we meet her: living in her father’s basement and unsure of how to move onto the next phase of her life. All of that changes, however, when she’s faced with the decision to either train a new rising star in town–or sabotage her in order to preserve her own legacy.
A lot of people may not know that in addition to being an actress, you have been writing for a long time. What kinds of stories are you interested in telling as a writer, and what in particular felt compelling about telling this story?
I’m most interested in writing the stories of flawed women (read: real), who are raw characters with layers that need to be peeled back. The attempt is always to ground their stories first, then crank up the comedy with the characters who inhabit that world. I like creating anything that helps me to contextualize an experience of life I’m struggling to understand personally.
One of these experiences is that of fame. It’s a weirdly magnetic and seductive force in American culture, yet it if you do attain it, it has literally no substance and it’s incredibly fickle. For example, early in my career, I suddenly had national weekly visibility working as a talking head comedian on Vh1’s “Best Week Ever.” During that time, I went to the food court of my local mall in New Jersey, and scored a free Wetzel Pretzel from being recognized, and this happened each time I went (in what became a bizarre, yet lovely ego-boosting ritual).
A year or so later, I was off the show and out of work, and the same kiosk manager who’d regularly gifted me the pretzel charged me full price. “The Bronze” is an exploration of a star’s rise and fall from a pedestal–a topic that has long been a source of fascination for me and my husband (who co-wrote the film and has witnessed all the peaks and valleys of my career).

Johnny Galecki is best known as Leonard on The Big Bang Theory, but after 10 seasons on the CBS sitcom, he wanted more from his stable career as a “hired gun” actor. Sifting through various projects in search of the right one to produce, the 40-year-old ultimately discovered The Master Cleanse, a horror/drama/comedy project from first-time filmmaker Bobby Miller.
The Master Cleanse delves into creature feature territory, with Galecki playing a lonely man who attends a spiritual retreat that promises to cleanse and purify his life, but ends up literally releasing his inner demons. Ahead of the film’s SXSW world premiere on March 13, EW has an exclusive, creepy clip from The Master Cleanse, above, and an interview with the Emmy-nominated actor.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: You’ve had a very diverse career, from Christmas Vacation toRoseanne and The Big Bang Theory. With The Master Cleanse, were you looking for something strange to counteract the tone of the roles people might associate with you?
JOHNNY GALECKI: When I first came aboard The Master Cleanse, purely as a producer, the writer-director, Bobby Miller, had another actor in mind. I gave him fair warning that if, for whatever reason, there might be a scheduling conflict with this actor, that I was not going to play his lead role. I had no interest in wearing both hats. There was a scheduling conflict with the initial actor, and everyone just ignored my cardinal rule. [Laughs.] [Bobby] called me and said, “Well, you have a wardrobe fitting tomorrow morning!” So, it was not the premeditation of playing the role whatsoever. I was as thrilled as I was terrified to take on those reins, but it wasn’t by design.
I hesitate, then, to call it an accident that you also starred in this film, but…
Feel free to call it an accident! It very much was. I endeavor to be a creative producer, and so a lot of what I had to contribute fortunately happened before we got to shooting. Being a producer was a bit of a distraction from the acting and some days vice versa.
Trailer Courtesy of Bobby Miller:
Still, at least tonally, this is a very different project for you. How do you, as an actor, prepare to make the jump from a mainstream comedy series like The Big Bang Theory to a low-budget indie movie?
I must admit it’s a welcome change. As much as I love The Big Bang Theory and playing Leonard 200-some episodes in, I think playing a departure from that character only serves that character once you return to him. The actors that I admire, that’s always been a part of their careers, that sense of unpredictability and diversity. If you liken it to a musician that’s been playing the same type of music for nine years, you jump at the chance to play in some sort of different genre. It’s much more exciting or liberating than it is even scary or challenging. But, goodness, I’ve been lonely before. That’s really the number one word to describe [my character] Paul Berger in The Master Cleanse. The poor guy is searingly lonely, and I think that’s universally relatable; I had plenty to pull from. The difference, and one of the things I really liked about the character, is that he’s not really aware of that. I’d like to think that I’m pretty self-aware; at least I try to be. [Laughs.] I can’t imagine anyone who would say differently. In Paul’s case, one of the things I loved about him is that he’s kind of emotionally arrested at this traumatic point from a previous relationship, and it’s kind of analogous to the slowly boiling frog. His life kind of unravels so slowly that he doesn’t even realize it’s in freaking shambles, and that’s fun to play.
How do you think your experience as an actor informed your work as a producer on The Master Cleanse? Were you more in step with certain aspects of production or was this a learning experience for you as well?
You can never predict how an audience is going to respond. But with 300-plus live studio audience episodes under my belt and dozens of theater productions in Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles, I mighthave a little bit — and please use italics when I say “might” — have a little bit more of an inkling than some other folks in the business of how an audience might react.

More official summaries/reports will be coming, but wanted to update you on what came out of chat about the episode taped tonight. This focuses mainly on the Lenny/Shamy story and updates on the other story will come soon.
The two couples head to a cabin. The episode starts with Sheldon doing an outdoor simulation complete with car freshener to bring in the outdoor scent.
Penny says a doctor offered her a cabin for a weekend to which Sheldon was not impressed. Amy said if Leonard went and he didn’t, Leonard might end up smarter than Sheldon. Amy admitted she was manipulating him, but he decided to go anyway.
At any rate, they arrive at the cabin and we see Sheldon wearing a virtual helmet heading to the cabin. It is raining outside.
Leonard complains about the rain and Sheldon sarcastically replies back something along the lines of “oh yes, we have warmth, comfort..oh horror!”
Sheldon suggests they check each other for tics which Amy then replies “Sheldon, you only walked from the car to the cabin.” He then says “Who wants to check me” to which Amy replies “on the other hand, safety comes first” and Sheldon drops his pants saying “well, suit yourself” and steps closer to her.
Penny suggests a drinking game after first trying to convince them all they could walk through the woods in the rain without success. So the group decide to play “Never have I ever” where you make a statement starting with “Never have I ever” and then say something that you have not done. Anyone who has done that thing has to drink.
Leonard starts and says to Penny “Never have I ever used Sheldon’s toothbrush to clean the sink.” Penny drinks, with Sheldon looking on with quite a priceless expression. Penny then says “Nebver have I ever made up a name for my genitals.” and Leonard begins drinking. He shares the name, embarrassed, but the attendee at the taping could not recall the name he gave. Amy interrupts him and says “OK, OK my turn” and she says “Never have I ever completely rocked my girlfriend’s world in bed.” And Sheldon looks at her puzzled why she would bring that up, but drinks. Leonard wants to take a drink, but Penny gives him a questioning expression, then says “go ahead, drink” to which Leonard drinks and has a self-satisfied look on his face.
Sheldon then takes his turn and says “Never have I ever kept a secret savings bank account from my wife.” Penny gets really ad and says “I can’t believe you’d do that” before stomping out of the room. Leonard follows her.
Leonard apologizes to Penny and she forgives him and says that she too has been keeping a secret from him. She hates her job! Leonard asks her why she never said anything to which she said “I know it is important for you that I’m successful.” Leonard says “No…..” and sie asks “So you would be okay with it if I quit my job and went back to acting?” Leonard says “Sure, but do you want to do that?” Penny replies “No” and he then says “Thank God” with relief. Penny then says “I guess that’s the adult thing to do, to keep this job to pay off my debt.”
Leionard then says “Never have I ever made love in a cabin in the woods in the rain.” Penny leans in to kiss him (in one take, but says the same thing in both takes), “Yeah, I gotta drink again” and leaves.
In the tag scene, Shamy are being themselves playing the drinking game still but cannot find anything to drink about, even though they act a bit tipsy. They tried several questions without success in taking a drink.
More about Raj, Howard and Berndette coming and we will link you to more official reports ASAP>
