In “The Big Bang Theory” season one episode titled The Bat Jar Conjecture, Raj suggested Mayim Bialik join their physics bowl team. The four-time Emmy nominee is now scheduled to speak at RWTH Aachen University which is on the verge of becoming one of the largest research campuses in Europe. Bialik who will address the conference July, 24th on the topic ‘The Science of Big Bang’ will be in her academic element, having earned her Ph.d from UCLA, she will be addressing fellow Ph.d’s, and students at the conference. All sessions to the events are restricted to those registered for the conference.
Like her character Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler she will be mingling with physicists and scientists in several STEM fields but the conference’s target group is young researchers (under 35 years of age), senior scientists and thesis supervisors that would benefit the participants, including young researchers and PhD students.
The main topics for the conference are the following:
- Computational Applied Mathematics,
- Computational Engineering Science,
- Computational Fluid Dynamics,
- Computational Materials Science,
- Computational Solids and Structural Mechanics,
- Scientific Computing.
Dr. Sheldon Cooper, as fans of the show will recognize, would also be thrilled to know that RWTH Aachen University is known for it’s collaborations with industry and science research in particular the further development of the detectors of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world’s largest particle collider. Kidding aside, this is not an event where you would find most television or film actors and though the event is not open to the public it brings additional accolades to “The Big Bang Theory” and the neuroscientist/actress, Dr. Mayim Bialik.
The affect of the shows popularity prompting interests in the hard sciences worldwide has been enough that The Big Bang Theory Scholarship Endowment was created at UCLA. It has raised more than $4 million, with an initial donation from the Chuck Lorre Family Foundation and gifts from nearly 50 people associated with the show. It’s goal to provide financial aid to undergraduate students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields.
The Big Bang Theory returns to CBS with its season 9 premiere on Monday, September 21, 2015.
