NBC sent out cancellation notices on A to Z and Bad Judge.  Both will be able to finish out their previously ordered 13 episodes, but none beyond.  Sadly, neither show was able to get any traction to pull in audience, following a low-ratings lead in The Biggest Loser, which last night had a 1.1 in the demo adult 18-49 rating.   A to Z came in with 0.7 and Bad Judge with 0.9.  NBC, last night, came in behind Univsion with its sub-par rating of 1.0.

NBC plans to move Blacklist, after the superbowl to the 9 PM time slot left behind by both shows.

The Big Bang Theory moved back to Thursday night with nothing short of a miracle: The show was able to keep a surprise cameo under wraps ahead of airing, an act that’s nearly unheard of in an age where spoilers freely leak long before episodes debut.

See Our Related Article

The CBS comedy welcomed Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton, who played Dr. Oliver Lorvis, a urologist who misunderstands Penny’s (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting) flirtation while working and attempts to woo her. How did the cameo come to be?

“A few months ago, we had seen an interview with Billy Bob talking about shows he likes. He was saying how much he likes Big Bang Theory, and watches it all the time, and gets so into it [that] he starts talking to the characters on the screen,” showrunner Steve Molaro tells EW. “We thought that was so cool, and we think he’s so great.”

The producers began with the idea of Penny taking off her engagement ring while working as a pharmaceutical rep to boost her sales. “When we started thinking about Billy Bob, the thought was that he could be the doctor who doesn’t quite understand the signals—that this would be a socially awkward doctor who falls for Penny’s sales flirtations. We went back to Billy and his people with that thought, and they thought it was really fun and cool, so we went from there,” explains Molaro.

Mayim Bialik and Jim Parsons are among good company when it comes to Celebrity Jack-O-Lanterns in many places.  The Daily Mail in the UK featured an article today that centered on celebrity pumpkin faces and Bialik and Parsons were among some pretty amazing company.  The list included  Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Ellen DeGeneress, Elvis Presley, Oprah, Bryan Cranston, Shirley Temple, Roger Ebert, Joan Rivers, Jimi Hendrix, Mickey Rooney, Nelson Mandella,  and many more.

We think we would have used the photos the pumpkins matched (see our match below the two published versions), but it is wonderful the likenesses.

Update:   Below is an interview Mayim had with SLU-TV where she gives an overview of what she talked about during her visit at the University.

Dr. Mayim Bialik spoke at Saint Louis University Great Issues Committee meeting tonight.  Speaking to a very large audience, Mayim talked about her journey to where she is today, inspiring many in the audience.   We hope to be getting a lot more detail from an attendee and will be updating this post at that time.  In the meantime, here are some photos from tonight:

Had the absolute pleasure of hearing Mayim Bialik speak at SLU tonight! It’s so cool to see a woman in Hollywood caring about things outside of her Hollywood life, like teaching, science, her family, her religion, and herself in general. Loads of respect for her. She’s funny, talented, intelligent, confident, inspiring, and powerful. Basically, she’s a freakin’ powerhouse. So glad I got to hear her speak!

‘The Big Bang Theory producers and cast/crew were mum about the episode that was to air tonight, the first night of November sweeps.   We had hints for two weeks now that there was something very special to expect in this episode but that they were bound to secrecy.   Well the cat is out of the bag!   The big secret?…..

Billy Bob Thornton!

Yes Billy Bob Thornton, who is a big fan of The Big Bang Theory guest starred on the show and this had to be a dream episode for him based on his comments earlier this year while he attended a pre-Emmy party:

Not only did  Thornton get his wish that his urologist character got to try and woo Penny (played by Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting), but he was able to woo Amy Farrah Folwer (played by Mayim Bialik) and interact with the entire Big Bang  cast.

Basically Thornton played a urologist that specialized in treating major celebrities in a supposed discrete, yet not so discrete way.   Through his treating so many in Hollywood, he managed to acquire quite a collection of wonderful movie props and games.   Needless to say, the boys are easily interested to see his collection, even Leonard who just learned that the good doctor just tried to his upon his finance, Penny.  Penny had called upon the doctor in her new job as a pharmaceutical sales rep and he misunderstood some of her flirtations.

Hilarity ensues as there are further mixups that lead him to meet Amy and realize maybe she is the woman for him!

The Big Bang Theory tonight was definitely Must Watch TV!

Hey, baby girls!

Shirtless wonder Shemar Moore has been acting professionally for nearly 20 years but seems to have struck gold with Criminal Minds. ETonline caught up with the heartthrob to talk about the success of the CBS drama, currently in its 10th season.

“I’m lucky, blessed, humbled and proud by it,” he says. “It’s really to the fans. They found, they stuck with us, they scream for us and they’re there every week.

“Our writers come through with that twisted material,” he adds. “I come in and kick down doors [and] flirt with my baby girl. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”

What major changes can fans expect this season?

“I’ve got myself a girlfriend so [my character] Morgan might be getting a little more hanky panky,” he teases.

But what about a real life romance? — will Shemar settle down one day?

“I gotta give mama some grandbabies one day,” he says. “I want to do it the right way but I definitely want to do it.”

TV’s number one comedy The Big Bang Theory kicked off its eighth season this year, and ET’s Kevin Frazier was on set to get some juicy gossip from the show’s stars. #1: Is Kaley Pregnant?

Johnny Galecki and Kaley Cuoco, who play engaged couple Leonard and Penny on the show, talked with Frazier about their on-screen relationship, but the conversation quickly turned to Cuoco’s real-life romance.

The actress married tennis player Ryan Sweeting at the end of last year, and baby rumors are beginning to fly.

“I knew I shouldn’t have worn this!” Cuoco laughed about her choice of a loose draped blouse, as pregnancy talk started immediately.

“The short haircut isn’t helping the pregnancy rumors by the way,” Galecki teased, pointing out Cuoco’s new pixie cut.

The actress fired back, “What does that mean?”

Galecki attempted to answer, “I don’t know. Women always seem to get their hair cut…they don’t…I don’t know…I’m staying out of it,” before thinking better of it and trailing off. Classic Leonard.

#2: The Secrets of Sheldon’s Seat

When Frazier asked Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik, nerdy couple Sheldon and Amy on the show, for some set secrets, they pointed him to Sheldon’s “special spot,” a seat on the couch that the character believes is optimally oriented for his sitting pleasure (and no one else’s!).

“There was an episode where something got on that cushion,” Parsons dished.  “It was so established, that they were very scared they would ruin the cushion, so they made a whole other cushion.”

Parsons showed ET the fake pillow which surprised even Bialik, who exclaimed, “I didn’t even know that and I sit on it!”

“We rehearse with this so that we don’t ruin the other one,” Parsons revealed.

#3 Indecent Exposure

Frazier’s conversation with Simon Helberg (Howard), Kunal Nayyar (Raj), and Melissa Rauch (Bernadette) got off the rails quickly, as Helberg thought Frazier was asking for “sex secrets” from the cast.

“This is highly uncomfortable, you guys,” Rauch laughed. “I’m calling HR.”

Nayyar admitted to ET that he sometimes cracks himself up on set.

The McCarthy kids are, from left, Kelen Coleman, Joey McIntyre, Jimmy Dunn and Tyler Ritter. (Patrick McElhenney / CBS)

In “The McCarthys,” a multi-camera sitcom premiering Thursday on CBS — where the multi-camera sitcom has always had a home — Tyler Ritter plays Ronny, the black-sheep son of a close-knit Boston family.

The McCarthys‘ CBS sitcoms, though most have their individual subtleties, do tend to beat you around the head with the jokes and the squabbling and the outrageousness, and “The McCarthys,” though less hectic than some of its stablemates, is not an exception to this rule. (Patrick McElhenney / CBS) By black sheep, I mean that, unlike his parents and siblings, he has no interest in sports and that he has proposed leaving Boston for Providence, for a better job and “vibrant gay community.” The gay thing, though imperfectly understood by the other McCarthys — “Aren’t all gay communities vibrant?” wonders brother Gerard (Joey McIntyre) — is not so much an issue.

The family is filled out by Laurie Metcalf as Ronny’s mother, who loves “The Good Wife” and mourns “The Closer” and is surprised to find that Ronny is “still pursuin’ ” being gay; Jack McGee as his basketball-coach father; Kelen Coleman as sister Jackie, who wears sequins to a funeral; and comedian Jimmy Dunn as big slow brother Sean, an extremely non-identical twin to McIntyre’s lean and hungry Gerard. McIntyre was in New Kids on the Block, it seems worth mentioning.

Everyone is good, though there is something especially warming in the presence of Ritter. He looks, sounds and acts very much like his late father, John, a stalwart of the situation comedy through the late 20th century.

And we note with some satisfaction that where the father got famous playing a straight man pretending to be gay — so he can room with two women, priceless — we have progressed to the point where a gay character can lead a network comedy, created by a gay man (Brian Gallivan, “Happy Endings“), and the only question is whether it’s funny or not. It’s not even a fluke anymore.

He’s also branched out to chic accessories with New York-based jewelry line PONO by Joan Goodman with a six nature-inspired pieces. But I want to go directly to the source to find out what the secret to successful power dressing is—you know, in case we need to save our dreamboat colleague from prison, run for political office, or just make an impression with the boss at the next team meeting.
