Jim Parsons as Dr. Sheldon Lee Cooper on ‘The Big Bang Theory’ Image: CBS

Jim Parsons is well known as genius and theoretical physicist, Dr. Sheldon Lee Cooper on The Big Bang Theory.  Jim only plays a physicist, but now, he lends his voice to talk about the football team at Massachusetts Institute for Technology (MIT).  In this promo he  announces the team to the world.   Hear him talk about these real life geniuses who also happen to be good football players, winning their playoff game!  They are the real physicists, scientists, and engineers of the world!

Update:  Sadly our physicists, scientists and engineers lost to Wesley today 59-0.  We can already hear the jokes about the “Wesley Crushers”.   Howard Wolowitz would not be amused.

An interview with prime time’s most popular scientist.
By Ben Worthen

Jim Parsons, star of the CBS TV comedy “The Big Bang Theory,” isn’t a theoretical physicist in real life, but he is unmistakably charming and thoughtful.

He recently spent several days in Los Angeles shooting a series of ads for Intel RealSense, a 3D-camera technology that brings human-like vision to personal computers.

He arrived at the set after spending time on his own playing around with the technology. In between acting in scenes and posing for 50 of the most awkward driver’s license photos ever, he sat down for a brief interview with iQ.

Here’s a slightly-edited transcript of the conversation:

Technology makes Jim’s head spin.

What was your first experience with a computer?

My very first experience with a computer was the Commodore 64. I was in elementary school, and I don’t know why we had it, and I don’t know why I was learning really minor programming skills. You’d do whatever it was to make a dot run around the screen and then repeat itself again and again. It did not lead me to a career in this field, however.

What kind of technology or devices do you have in your life now?

My devices are a laptop, an iPad, my phone, and my Kindle. And see this is where it gets interesting because [technology has] so infiltrated one’s life that I could go and say my DVR and my Sonos system, all the way down to the microwave. I don’t feel very technologically savvy. I’m not a gamer or anything, and yet I have surrendered so many responsibilities of my life to technology, and it’s made a lot of things easier.

Do you feel like you’re someone who appreciates technology?

I’m somebody who takes it for granted. You take advantage of it like you do electricity. It’s there — but hasn’t it always been? — even though I’m very aware that it hasn’t.

I think that goes to good design, too, because the things that I use on a daily basis are so well designed that you don’t have to think about it. It’s not a constant marvel. The marvel is that it’s not worth thinking about. It’s just pressing a button.

What aspects of technology get you excited?

I get excited about anything new, to be honest. And that even goes to things not technology focused. Like a new book, or a new TV show, or a new whatever. I don’t consider myself somebody who completely geeks out on new apparatuses as it were. But at the same time it’s very exciting, and you do want to have your chance to see if this is something you want to take on and use in your life.

“Getting to play around with this technology left me feeling astounded. There’s something so natural about it, in an exciting way.”

You had the opportunity to play around with some of the RealSense technology on set. What do you think of it?

Getting to play around with this technology left me feeling astounded. There’s something so natural about it, in an exciting way. But it’s a little freaky at the same time. Like for the 3D scan, all I had to concentrate on was holding my head in one position and moving left and right. It didn’t even take long, and it didn’t need me to do a whole lot, and bam! It was there.

Long before Stuart Bloom owned a comic book store on The Big Bang Theory, his portrayer, Kevin Sussman, was in the film Changing Lanes.   In this clip, he is aspiring lawyer, Tyler Cohen, being interviewed by Gavin Banek, played by Ben Affleck.

Synopsis
An attorney, Gavin Banek (Ben Affleck)  in a rush to make a court appointment to file legal papers involving a multi-million dollar trust accidentally collides with an alcoholic insurance salesman, Doyle Gipson (played by Samuel L Jackson), who also is a rush for a court appointment involving the custody of his children. The attorney leaves the scene of the accident and strands the salesman, causing him to miss his custody hearing. During the process of the post-crash discussion, the attorney accidentally drops the papers he needs to present in court. The judge gives him until the end of the day to present the papers and thus begins a cat and mouse game between the proponents. A few questionable actions later on both parties’ part, they finally start questioning their actions and their lives. In the end, both come to new understanding of what is important and appear to be set in new ethical and moral directions. Contains mild violence and profanity.

Primary Cast:

Ben Affleck…………………………Gavin Banek
Samuel L. Jackson………………Doyle Gipson
Kim Staunton……………………..Valerie Gipson
Toni Collette……………………….Michelle
Syndey Pollack……………………Stephen Delano

Adam Bryant from TV Guide Magazine brings a little Thanksgiving treat to fans.  He is spilling for various shows, spoilers in coming soon episodes of your favorites.   We bring you the spoilers from Criminal Minds, Hawaii Five-O, Nashville,  NCIS and The Mindy Project and a link to others.

HAWAII FIVE-0

Any Hawaii Five-0 intel? — Chris

Did you think that the show forgot that Danny killed his brother’s murderer? Nope. “There’s going to be a price to pay for what [Danny] did,” executive producer Peter Lenkov says. “The same with Chin Ho borrowing the money from Gabriel — that’s going to come to a head also.” That episode will be a big one for McGarrett too, as he’ll get more information about his mother. “That will launch into a bigger story with him finally finding her and coming to terms with what happened [with Wo Fat].”

What’s next for Bishop and Gibbs after that heart-to-heart a couple weeks ago on NCIS? — Trisha

Bishop’s training wheels are about to come off, which means no more Mr. Nice Gibbs. “There’s a [candor] and honesty between Bishop and Gibbs,” executive producer Gary Glasberg says. “Gibbs isn’t going to be afraid to tell her what he’s thinking or handle her the way that Gibbs handles everybody.” Emily Wickersham welcomes the change. “You see more windows into who she is,” she says. “She usually is right all the time. But as this season goes on, you slowly see more and more faults, which to me makes her more and more human.”

I noticed Nashville mentioned Sadie’s ex-husband last week. Will we ever meet him? — Linda
You bet! And when it comes to collecting the money that Sadie’s ex believes he is owed, not even a restraining order will stop him. In fact, expect him to set up camp across the street from the studio where Sadie is trying to lay down some new tracks with Avery. Fortunately, Sadie will channel her anger into making some beautiful music.

I can’t believe Adam Pally is leaving The Mindy Project! — Gretchen
Get ready for more cast upheaval once Mindy accepts a prestigious fellowship 3,000 miles away at Stanford University. As a result, the show will introduce a new doctor, a handsome but intense nerd who’s one of Mindy’s instructors. And guess what? He went to med school with Danny — which makes things plenty awkward when we find out that the new doc’s new wife has some old feelings for Danny.

Got any Criminal Minds dirt? — Kyle
Here’s a nugget: Episode 11 deals with JJ’s PTSD on the one-year anniversary of her abduction, which causes concern among the team. Although it doesn’t affect her job performance, executive producer Erica Messer teases that “it’s coming out in unexpected ways. She’s kind of internalizing it.”

by Tonya Papanikolas on Nov 26, 2014

As “The Mentalist” prepares to debut its final season on CBS beginning this Sunday, the team behind its success is revealing what viewers can expect to see over the next few months. Creator Bruno Heller says being gifted with one last “encore” season allows them to give fans the strongest sendoff possible. Viewers will be treated to a lighter, happier season seven with an underlying focus on Jane and Lisbon’s relationship.

We got a chance to talk with Heller, along with stars Simon Baker and Robin Tunney. They dished on everything from season seven spoilers to the type of relationship we will see from Jane and Lisbon to favorite memories working together. And we can tell you this: These three clearly enjoy each other’s company. Throughout the interview they laughed a lot and joked back and forth. Baker continuously teased Heller while he tried to answer questions. Several times Heller apologized for taking his time to answer, saying Baker was razzing him in the background or whispering in his ear or even giving Heller nuts. And at one point Baker finished Tunney’s thoughts. Chemistry like this is undeniable. It’s one of the reasons the show has been such a success. And it’s a big reason fans can’t wait to see what lies ahead. So let’s get started. Here’s the scoop on season seven.

WHAT IS SEASON 7 ALL ABOUT?

Heller: Essentially this season is about what happens when life turns out the way you’d hoped. What happens when you do have a happy ending – what happens after that? Jane and Lisbon have been engaged in this epic journey for six years, trying to capture Red John, and now they’ve done that. How do you live again after that? How do you re-create a different kind of life? And leading on from the end of season six, how do you create a different relationship out of a relationship that was born in the kind of trauma that theirs was? This season is very much about the reconfiguring of that relationship that has been based on a mission, on a shared desire. That mission is now over and they have to find out: As much as they love each other, how can they live together? And what will they do with their lives?

Tunney: There’s also an aspect to Simon’s character that is really authentic the way they’ve explored it. Up until he caught Red John, that’s why he was there [working in law enforcement]. He wasn’t fighting crime because it was something he was born to do or wanted to do. He didn’t want to work in law enforcement. It was settling this personal score. And now he’s there and I think he’s wondering why he is there. And I think that’s a really interesting thing to explore because it’s honest to the character.

Heller: It’s also about a modern woman with a career that she loves that she has a great talent for. And now she’s being confronted with a potentially different life path. How do you give up that career if that’s the way you want to go? Or how do you combine love and work in this particularly intense form of work? It’s difficult.

Tunney: Because it defines you. It’s so much of your life. I think that Lisbon definitely feels like it defines her as a human being – what she does and not who she is.
WHAT KIND OF ROMANCE WILL WE SEE FROM JANE AND LISBON? ANY PUBLIC DISPLAYS OF AFFECTION?

Heller: These two are never going to be “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf” because that’s not who they are. Both Jane and Lisbon are private, self-contained, protective people. So it’s a love story – but it’s not a very conventional love story. It’s a love story that is consonant with the relationship they’ve had, which is the interesting thing about it. When we started, it was very much… brother/sister is the wrong way to describe it, but it’s that kind of familial affection that over time has turned into something more. That, to a degree, makes the romance harder for both characters to negotiate because they’re not fiery, passionate, crazy people. They’re people who need to work their way towards seeing how this will play out in the future. It’s a very sort of Jane Austen type of romance – the good ones in Jane Austen. The ones you devoutly wish to be consummated [are] between two people who have known each other for years, and you can see that they’re made for each other – not in a fiery, kind of crazy way. But just in a human, gentle, correct way.

Tunney: Yeah, season seven is not “50 Shades of Grey” done by “The Mentalist.” It’s sort of interesting because they are two people who don’t know how to be in a relationship. They’ve both been alone for such a long time. And [we’re] sort of exploring two people who are adults, who’ve only been responsible for themselves and haven’t really shared their life with anybody in a very long time – what it feels like to sort of explore that intimacy, [including] that it’s uncomfortable.

Michael Ausiello has spilled some new spoilers for various shows.   Below we bring you the spoiler for NCIS and the link to his other show tidbits:

NCIS_BestDramaintheWorldAward

Question: Any new intel on NCIS? —Marsha

Ausiello: As you might imagine, finally meeting Gibbs’ second ex-wife (played by Jeri Ryan) will be quite a thing, for those on both ends of the television tubes. “The fans are in store for some goodies,” Emily Wickersham, who plays Bishop, told Matt Mitovich. “We just finished shooting that episode, and it’s a big deal for the team. And it’ll be the same for the fans, a huge deal. It’ll be an exciting one, for sure.” (Titled “Check,” the episode is tentatively scheduled to air Jan. 6.)

Roundabout Theater Company announced that four-time Emmy award nominee, Jane Krakowski will be joining four-time Emmy award winner and Golden Globe winner, Jim Parsons at the one-night benefit reading of Merton of the Movies.  The play, penned by George S. Kaufman and Marc Connelly will be directed by six-time Tony nominee Scott Ellis.  Sydney Beers is Executive Producing.

The play synopsis:

It’s the golden era of silent motion pictures, and no one loves them more than Merton Gill (Parsons), a naïve store clerk from a small town in Illinois. After taking an acting class—and determined to become a great dramatic actor—Merton uses his life’s savings to head to Hollywood. There’s only one problem: He can’t act. When a plucky young starlet and a manipulative movie executive see how inadvertently funny Merton’s earnest efforts are, they cast him in a comedy (that they tell him is a drama) and hilarity ensues!

Parsons will be playing the lead character Merton Gill.  Jrankowski will play The Monague Girl.
