UNE IN: WGN AMERICA’S IRREVERENT, NEW DOCUSERIES,

‘WRESTLING WITH DEATH,’

PREMIERES TUESDAY, JANUARY 13 AT 10 PM ET/9 PM CT

Lively Back to Back Episodes of Network’s First Unscripted Original Prove

That a Family that ‘Wrassles’ Together, Stays Together

“Wrestling with Death” follows The Lathams of Osceola, Arkansas: morticians by day who run the Wilson Funeral Home, and professional wrestlers by night who run the Mid-Southern Championship Wrestling League (MCW). Located about 50 miles away from Memphis, Tennessee on the mighty Mississippi River, Osceola is a small town with just over 7,000 residents, for whom the top forms of entertainment include trips to the local Wal-Mart and dining at one of the few restaurants in town. Taking matters into his own hands, LaFonce chose to give “death a rest and pump some life” into his community by running the Friday night wrestling show at the MCW. The funeral business and the league are both family affairs, and according to LaFonce, “a family that ‘wrassles’ together, stays together.” As LaFonce and his family understand better than just about anyone, nothing can teach more about the value of life than death; they choose to celebrate life in a unique and inclusive way, making them pillars of their community.

“FIGHTING TIL THE END” – Airing Tuesday, January 13 at 10 PM ET/9 PM CT

LaFonce plans Ms. Sandra’s return to the MCW ring, but Sandra is not so sure; LaFonce has new son-in-law, Derrick, prove himself now that he is a part of the family and funeral business; Wilson funeral home prepares for the funeral of Becky, who lost her long battle with cancer.

“RESPONSIBILITY” – Airing Tuesday, January 13 at 10:30 PM ET/9:30 PM CT

When Harry takes it too far during practice, Sandra threatens to keep him out of the ring;

Max and Derrick take an interest in the cattle business and must work on their cowboy skills; ‘Big Les’ and his family values are remembered.

By Team TVLine /

You win an Emmy or create a critical/ratings smash and you get to rest on your laurels, right?

Not if you’re one of TVLine’s Most Valuable Players of 2014.

As we brainstormed our end-of-year awards galleries (if you missed ‘em, please check out Part 1 and Part 2), certain names kept popping up — and not necessarily in the places you expected to find ‘em. Shonda Rhimes on The Mindy Project? Allison Janney slaying us again (and not for her Emmy-winning turns on Mom or Masters of Sex)? Michiel Huisman making us stop our ad-break fast-forwarding for The Seduction of Gisele Bündchen?

Check out the 21 folks who played pivotal roles in at least one major TV project in 2014 — but who also moonlighted in other interesting or out-of-left-field endeavors.

MARTIN FREEMAN

For his Season 3 turn as Watson to Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock, Freeman won his first Emmy in 2014, while his role as Lester Nygaard in FX’s acclaimed Fargo earned him both Emmy and Golden Globe nods. Freeman capped his very big year by hosting one of Saturday Night Live‘s strongest outings of the season to date.

MATT BOMER

Bomer turned in a revelatory performance in The Normal Heart, shedding 40 pounds to play Felix Turner, a New York Times reporter who succumbs to AIDS. The astonishing physical and emotional transformation earned the actor a Critics Choice Television Award and an Emmy Award nomination. But Bomer wasn’t done surprising audiences. He followed up the HBO film with a guest spot on American Horror Story: Freak Show as a hustler who was stripped down and murdered, and then he put his best suit back on for White Collar‘s twisty swan song.

ALLISON JANNEY

Janney scored not one, but two Primetime Emmy Awards this year — as Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and Guest Actress in a Drama — for wildly different roles: Mom‘s bawdy, brutally honest recovering alcoholic Bonnie and Masters of Sex‘s repressed (but awakening) Margaret. Not only was the actress’ acceptance speech for the former trophy was one of the highlights of the Emmy telecast, but she also scored huge laughs as the virgin fiancée of an elderly billionaire on Web Therapy and is gearing up to host the 2015 People’s Choice Awards next month. Whew!

“NCIS” might be 12 seasons in, but that doesn’t mean the CBS drama is running out of stories to tell any time soon. “There’s some stuff coming up in January that’s going to be pretty surprising,” star Sean Murray teases. “I wish I could [say more]!”

While the actor remains frustratingly vague on the characters or topic the storyline in question will involve — “You’ll know it when you see it!” — he is able to tell Zap2it a little more about what to expect in the new year.

“We get to meet one of Gibbs’ mystery ex-wives soon,” he says. Rebecca, the referred-to-but-never-seen second ex-wife, will be played by guest star Jeri Ryan. “That’s not necessarily what I’m talking about as far as the surprises and the twists, but there’s some pretty surprising stuff that comes up and I’ll definitely be looking to see the reaction to that one.”

As far as McGee’s arc in the second half of the season, Murray says there will be romance in the air.

Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting doesn’t always fit the mold when it comes to what people expect or think of her.   She is willing to put herself out there and is fairly open compared to many stars in Hollywood, revealing many things about herself that stirs up controversy.   But you have to admire her for her independence, willingness to brush herself off and keep moving forward even when “haters” try to knock her down.

Cuoco-Sweeting recently was interviewed by Redbook Magazine and revealed that she is proud of her choices, including her new haircut which many have criticized, her boob job when she was 18, and her marriage to handsome Ryan Sweeting after only dating him for four and a half months.    But Cuoco-Sweeting has always made her own choices and no one can dispute that they have worked for her.   She is one of the highest paid women on network Television, and has held a steady stream of jobs in an industry where it is very competitive and cut-throat.

Cuoco-Sweeting stirred up quite a bit of controversy with her comments about feminism in the article, yet again, she shows that she will play by her own rules and not what society dictates.

Cuoco-Sweeting will be in the February issue of Redbook Magazine which will be on newstands January 6, 2015!

by Mayim Bialik on Dec 30, 2014 9:27 AM ET

With the New Year upon us, I thought I would put down some random New Year’s-related thoughts. Some are resolution-type things, some are observations from the last year, and some are general hopes I have as a human being on this planet.

Cell Phone Moderation
As I shared here on Kveller before, I have been keeping my cell phone usage in check when I’m with my kids and would like to continue doing that. I have been pretty good and I don’t know that they notice, but they must realize they have more of me. It’s been good to be reminded what the present moment is. It’s not constantly checking a phone when there is a lull in conversation. Right, that.

Tempering The Temper
As I have also shared here on Kveller, I sometimes lose my mama temper. And I want to continue working on that. It means taking better care of myself (not enough sleep = lack of patience and tons of grumpiness = shouting; that equation I have certainly figured out). It means reaching out more to friends who I know struggle with the same things and not asking your friends who literally have endless patience and do not seem to have it in them to yell what to do because they will just tell you you’re doing great and everyone yells and kids are resilient and your kids know you love them. That’s all fine and sweet and nice and good, but it’s not true. I want to not yell. That’s the goal.

Don’t Act Like We’ve Been Through a War
Another mama goal is to not get to the end of each day with my kids as if we have just – God forbid – been through a war. Do you know what I mean? When they were toddlers I remember feeling like that. 5 o’clock would come and I just could not wait for it to be quiet so I would feed everyone in a mad rush and bathe them really quick and practically slingshot them into bed and then finally exhale, because I had been holding my breath since about 3 pm. I don’t like that. I don’t want that for me or my kids anymore. I need to find ways to let the end of the day be mellower. My mom used to let us watch TV after we did our homework, but I don’t have cable TV and sure, I could get something off Netflix but I honestly don’t use the TV like that. I want to find a way to have everyone chill out so we can enjoy the later parts of the day.

Israel
A lot of people hate Israel. And a lot more people than I thought would want to tell me they hate Jews. People also hate Zionists even though, from what I can tell, most no one knows what a Zionist is. The last thing I saw posted for my benefit was someone defending me I think, or trying to defend Jews maybe…

It read, “Not all Muslims are terrorists [true] and not all Jews are Zionists.” Ouch. I also saw someone post “I didn’t know you were a Zionist. Not following you anymore.” Ouch for the ignorance of this world, that assuming being a Zionist is legitimately equivalent to being a terrorist or, at best, someone not worth being associated with. Like it’s a crime. I hope this coming year we see education and progress in Israel and the Palestinian territories and throughout all of the Arab world so we can work this year towards peace, co-existence, transparency, and honesty.

WGN America's WRESTLING WITH DEATH

29 Dec 2014 5:15 PM PT

For immediate release – Building on the bold expansion of its original programming slate, WGN America has ordered to production its first two unscripted series, the docudrama “Outlaw Country,” executive-produced by Bischoff Hervey Entertainment’s Eric Bischoff and Jason Hervey (“The Devils Ride”), and the docuseries “Wrestling with Death,” executive-produced by Leftfield Pictures’ Brent Montgomery and ‎David George (“Pawn Stars”).  Kicking off the new year with thirteen weeks of unscripted original programming, “Wrestling with Death” is set to premiere Tuesday, January 13 (10:00 p.m. ET / 9:00 p.m. CT), followed by “Outlaw Country” on Tuesday, February 24 (10:00 p.m. ET/ 9:00 p.m. CT).

WGN America's OUTLAW COUNTRY

Set in the town of Buckner, Missouri, “Outlaw Country” chronicles the perennial battle between law enforcement and crime by following Mike and Steve Cook, brothers who act as Chief of Police and head of the Buckner Criminal Task Force, respectively, as they clash with John and Josh Monk, brothers they suspect are responsible for the town’s surge in crime.  In this one hour docu-drama, producers were given full access to both the police force and the Monk Brothers’ camp, providing an unprecedented look at crime in a small town from both sides of the law.  “Outlaw Country” is executive-produced by Eric Bischoff and Jason Hervey for Bischoff Hervey Entertainment (“The Devils Ride,” “Hardcore Pawn: Chicago”), alongside Charles “Chucky” Lynch, Robert Kaprill and Peter Karlin.  WGN America has ordered seven one-hour episodes to premiere Tuesday, February 24, 2015 (10:00 p.m. ET / 9:00 p.m. CT).

WGN America's WRESTLING WITH DEATH

Executive producers Leftfield Pictures (“Pawn Stars,” “American Restoration,” “Counting Cars”) presents “Wrestling with Death,” a unique family docuseries that introduces The Lathams of Osceola, Arkansas: morticians by day who run The Wilson Funeral Home, and professional wrestlers by night who run The Mid-Southern Championship Wrestling League.  “Wrestling with Death” is executive-produced by Brent Montgomery, David George, Alex Weresow and Jordana Hochman, alongside Bill Katz and Michelle Katz for Espiritus Productions.  Bill Duncan and David Duncan serve as consulting producers.  Twelve weekly back-to-back half-hour episodes have been ordered to premiere Tuesday, January 13, 2015 (10:00 p.m. ET/ 9:00 p.m. CT).

WGN America launched its strategy of delivering distinctive, original scripted and unscripted content last year.  “Outlaw Country” and “Wrestling with Death” join a growing stable of destination programming on WGN America, which includes the second season premiere of its hit supernatural series “Salem” in April 2015, along with the second season of its critically acclaimed original drama “Manhattan” and exclusive syndicated series “Person of Interest” and “Elementary,” all scheduled to premiere in 2015.  The network also recently announced a straight-to series order for the scripted drama “Outsiders” (formerly “Titans”).

These days, it would be hard to find an actor with a Twitter handle who doesn’t live tweet his or her own TV show, guest appearance or streaming movie. It’s practically part of their contract to gather with castmates, tweet with one hand, and clink drinks with the other — selfies optional.

That’s what makes the following celebrities so interesting: they watch and tweet other people’s projects. From weekly series to TV specials, these are the Twitter power users of 2014 who couldn’t resist sharing their reviews, 140 characters at a time. Besides being fun to follow, their tweets are the digital equivalent of a what-to-watch. Even when the snark level is set to “High,” these verified handles are real-time TV tune-in alerts to the water cooler shows everyone’s going to be talking (and tweeting) about.

Hit the follow button on Hollywood’s Twitter power users…

He offers up tune-in details and even leads the charge to save shows on the bubble.

When Wheaton isn’t guesting on friend Chris Hardwick’s internet-themed improv show “,” he’s racking up points and retweets playing the show’s hashtag games like #XmasAMovie or #StonerSports. Wil gets our vote as a very punny guy.

ZACH BRAFF
Things you can’t miss if you follow Braff on Twitter: There isn’t a selfie he doesn’t like, “Scrubs” lives on and the bromance with Donald Faison will last forever. And, like so many stars, he loves a live musical TV event. In fact, his “Peter Pan Live” tweet begging Allison Williams to take his gay virginity was so good, it earned him a retweet and coffee date with Mia Farrow.

BILLY EICHNER
Narrowing it down to just one comedian (hello Michael Ian Black, Patton Oswalt, Rob Delaney, Jenny Johnson, etc.) who geeks out over their favorite TV show on Twitter is tricky, but when Debra Messing tweets “OMG you’re so funny,” it narrows the category. In one subtweet, Eichner manages to skewer the entire TV musical genre and pin it all on “Sound of Music” sweetheart Carrie Underwood.

The cast and crew of The Big Bang Theory wrapped up taping their 13th episode of Season 8 and surprised the audience with another flash mob dance choreographed by Briana Cuoco and her team.   The entire cast participated and the audience clapped along with the music.   It was a complete joy.

Following the dance, the cast and crew went on to their holiday party before going on hiatus.   See the clip below of the surprise dance.  Once an official version of the dance becomes available, we will post it here.
