Will Nashville‘s Rayna/Deacon fans be singing a happy tune? Who is Supergirl‘s first Very Big Bad? Which Castle family is expanding? Baby drama for Jane? Read on for answers to those questions plus teases from other shows.

Pretty please, spill some details on whether Nashville‘s Rayna and Deacon will be getting back together anytime soon? –LooLoo
Our resident Nashville native-by-association, Kim Roots, tells me that Wednesday’s midseason premiere “will simultaneously delight and frustrate Deyna fans. The big winners: People who don’t like Luke Wheeler. He has a really rough time after Rayna gives him the heave-ho, and he acts out his anger on a huge scale. Finally, Deacon consults a specialist about his illness, and it’s even worse than we thought.”

Do you have any scoop on the upcoming Supergirl TV Show? –SuperSurfSurf
Kara Danvers née Zor-El will have her work cut out for her from the get-go, seeing as her adversary in the series pilot will be the DC Comics baddie Lumberjack. To that end, the CBS freshman is seeking a hulk akin to “Rory McCann, the 6-foot-6 actor from Game of Thrones” (pictured above) to play this “big, burly monster of a man, who has battled Kara’s cousin” — that’d be you-know-who — “in the past” and shows up to ascertain her level of power, on behalf of an unseen superior.

Isn’t it time for the birth of Palmer’s baby on NCIS? –Ann
Showrunner Gary Glasberg says you “absolutely” should prepare to meet Baby Palmer this season. But first, we gotta have a baby shower, to be held in this Tuesday’s episode… in the big orange room. At the festivities, Glasberg says, “Jimmy Palmer is a classic nervous dad, very conscientious about keeping his mother-to-be Breena healthy, so he’s making everybody a little crazy!”

Those new Jane the Virgin photos have me on edge. Is there medical drama ahead for Jane’s baby? –Dee
Gina Rodriguez confirms, “There is going to be an episode where Jane has some complications with the pregnancy.” That twist will also reveal the baby’s gender, but the star says, “We focus more on the complication than ‘boy versus girl.’” On alighter note, Jaime Camil says that in Episode 13, “Something very funky happens to Rafael” – though we’re not sure Rogelio’s portrayer isn’t biased. “I’m Team Michael, definitely,” he admits. “I cannot tell you why.”

On NCIS: New Orleans, will we see Pride’s father before the end of the season? Who would be a good fit to play him? –Chris
In the time since you sent this email, Pride’s father was cast, with the venerable Stacy Keach (Prison Break), who makes his debut on the freshman drama’s Fat Tuesday episode airing… well, on Fat Tuesday, Feb. 17. “Pride’s dad is in jail, and he’s been there for a while, and that will work into an arc that continues through the season,” says show boss Gary Glasberg. “We’re excited about what Mr. Keach brought to the show. It’s a fun part, so we’re sort of letting him take it and run with it.”

Anything new on The Mentalist? We are dying here! –Lia

Interesting your use of the word “dying,” because as forewarned in the promos, this Wednesday’s episode is indeed a sad one, and Jane’s speech at the very end may wreck longtime fans more than a bit.

ABC/DISNEY/AMC FAMILY

ABC has ordered a reboot of Uncle Buck to pilot, a comedy to be produced by Will Packer and will be a co-production with ABC Studios.  The series will be written by Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley who originally wrote the John Hughes film version that started John Candy.   The story centers on a childish man who learns how to be an adult by taking care of his nephews in a very childish way.   Cragg, Bradley and Packer will Executive Produce with Wil Packer Prods. head of TV Korin Huggins co-executive producing.   The project is hails from Universal TV.

ABC has also ordered a series called Family Fortune starring actor-comedian Fortune Feimster; Executive Produced by Matt Hubbard, Tina Fey, Robert Carlock,  and 3 Arts’ David Miner; co-star Feimster will serve as co-Executive Producer; the pilot created by Matt Hubbard.   Universal TV (where Hubbard, Fey and Carlock have overall deals) is producing.  Fortunate Fimster is about a popular gym teacher(played by Feimster) in Georgia who comes out of hte closet to her close-knit group of family and friends.   Unbeknownst to her, she will be dealing with her bickering and happily divorced parents also ‘coming out’ who are also sleeping together again.

HBO‘s Game of Thrones opened Friday at Imax Theaters to $686,000 US Box Office, screening at 205 Imax screens.  It is projected it could earn near $2 Mil for the weekend, bringing the average per-screen to a weekend high of $9,800.  Given it is Superbowl weekend, these numbers are very good.  If Game of Thrones-Imax had opened a different weekend, the numbers could have even been higher.  HBO remastered into Imax format the two-part Season 4 finale and added a Season 5 Trailer to the mix which premiered at a late night Thursday showing.  The Imax showing ends this Friday.

HBO‘s Game of Thrones debuted well at Imax but there were many lessons learned.   For one thing, content is important when considering collaborative efforts like HBO had with Imax, i.e., comedies such as The Big Bang Theory and Modern Family may not make for good subject material in an Imax theater.   There are other lessons learned as well.  See More

WARNER BROS.

Warner Bros. American Sniper’s writer, Jason Hall, answered questions today, during a screenwriters panel, fired at him regarding the controversy surrounding the film content at the 30th Santa Barbara International Film Festival.  He described his film as the story of Chris Kyle, veteran of four tours of duty in Iraq as a soldier who was “back home, but not ‘back'”   He elaborated that Kyle suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome after finding himself in a war where he reportedly targeted and killed 160 hits, the largest number in US military history.   Hall went on to say that the film wasn’t meant to be a portrait of a killer as some are saying.   “We know what we intended to do.  This is a movie about a soldier, exploring the archetype of a warrior and what that cost is and what that cost is to his family,” Hall explained.  Hall has been moved by all of the responses he has been getting from veterans and even those that raise controversy because he feels that it keeps veterans issues in the forefront.   American Sniper has been leading in the box office hitting close to $250 Mil.

Fans of The Good Wife will have to wait until March 1 for a new episode. But here’s a little casting scoop in the meantime: Oliver Platt, most recently seen as Stavros Milos on FX’s Golden Globe-winning miniseries Fargo, has been tapped for a guest arc on the CBS drama.

He’ll make his first appearance in an episode airing later in March. His character, R.D., is described as an intelligent, approachable, and politically conservative businessman who loves a civilized argument with a worthy opponent and has a passion for hunting.

31 Jan 2015

“NCIS” is pulling out the stops for February sweeps with the manhunt continuing for Russian terrorist Sergei Michnev (Alex Veadov), a special episode that introduces us to a teenage Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly), and several returning special guest stars.

So what’s the 411 on Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and his crack NCIS team? Let’s ask “NCIS” executive producer/show runner Gary Glasberg, shall we?

[SPOILER ALERT: The following text contains info on upcoming “NCIS” episodes]

Tuesday, February 3, 2015 — “We Build, We Fight”

Is it a hate crime when openly gay Navy Lieutenant Eric Kutzler (Andy Favreau), who was nominated for the Medal of Honor, is murdered? Gibbs is joined by his former flame Hollis Mann (Susanna Thompson) to investigate the crime.

“The episode delves into the complexity of that issue — how some of Kutzler’s fellow officers feel about it, how it is being handled,” Glasberg told FOX411. “It was brilliantly directed by our first-time director Rocky Carroll [who is normally in front of the camera as NCIS Director Leon Vance]. It is a terrific episode. The acting is really strong. I am excited about it on every level.”

As for the return of Hollis, it is too soon after the murder of Gibbs’ ex-wife Diane (Melinda McGraw) at the hands of Michnev for there to be any romance in the air. And no reveal is made as to whether or not Hollis is still happily married. According to Glasberg, she is there strictly on business. She was assigned as the investigator to vet Kutzler’s Medal of Honor, so when the case blossoms into a murder investigation, she then works with the team to solve it. If she also lends a shoulder and is a supportive friend for Gibbs, so much the better.

On a lighter note, the episode will also have a little fun with a baby shower being thrown for Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen) and his wife Breena (Michelle Pierce), who are due any minute!

Tuesday, February 10, 2015 — “Cadence”

What was a teenage Tony like in military prep school? We’ll find out in “Cadence,” when Tanner Stine plays the hormonal hunk.

“It’s another insight into who Tony was and who Tony is,” Glasberg says, “How his life has changed and evolved and moved forward. I look back and I love the way that little by little, we have learned things about Tony.”

As for Stine, Glasberg compliments the  relatively unknown 19-year-old actor, saying, “He’s got Tony’s spark, he’s got his wit, and there’s a sharpness in a look and a glance. He was a terrific kid and really studied. He went back and looked at a lot of episodes and studied Michael’s mannerisms.”

Also, in “Cadence,” we get a second visit from Ellie Bishop’s (Emily Wickersham) husband, NSA Attorney Jake Malloy (Jamie Bamber), who has a really nice moment with Gibbs.

“We will absolutely see more of Jake in the future,” Glasberg says. “I’m really enjoying what that relationship is for Bishop. The fact that she is married, she is content in that relationship, and there is consistency in her world means a lot. And I know it means a lot in the real NCIS world because many of them are happily married.”

Tuesday, February 17, 2015 — “Cabin Fever”

The wheels are turning in Gibbs’ mind and ideas are percolating below the surface for the first two weeks in February as Gibbs decides what action to take to get justice for Diane. Then in this episode, the Michnev story comes to a head — there is a resolution — and Gibbs finally lets down his guard — he’s been stoic up to now to help out Fornell (Joe Spano) — and we see him react to Diane’s death.

“There are some really brilliant moments between Harmon and Joe Spano’s Fornell,” Glasberg says. “It’s them working through the loss and grief.”

Can’t get enough “NCIS”? Here are the answers to more burning questions about CBS’ No. 1 drama:

Talks are in the works for Abby to be featured in an episode: “Any time I can shine a light on Pauley Perrette, that’s a good thing. Absolutely. It’s a matter of finding the niche. Our writers love to write for her.”

IMPORTANT NOTE: Awards counts for artists reflect categories in which they have been recognized as individuals or as part of their duo or group. In some cases, an artist may receive more than one nomination, which factors into their official count. For example, Kenny Chesney received two nominations in the Single Record of the Year category – one each as artist and producer – because that category recognizes both.

Earlier this week we reported that CBS ordered it’s first medical drama, Code Black to pilot.   Today it was announced CBS Television Studios have added a second medical drama to pilot, called LFE.   LFE will be Executive Produced by Dan Jinks (Emily Owens, MD) and co-Executive Produced by Paul Downs Colaizzo, who wrote the pilot.   A high-octane medical drama which follows the lives of second-year residents at New York City’s top hospital as they attempt to balance their “god complexes” with their humanity.
