Three more agents from CAA have decided to join Jason Heyman, Martin Lesak, Greg Cavic, Gregory McKnight and Nick Nuciforo who already resigned and have taken partnerships with UTA.   Joining the original five who were announced earlier today as having left CAA are Susie Fox, John Sacks and Joanna Scott.

Fox represents writers such as Modern Family‘s Ryan Case, Marry Me‘s John Gemberling, Monster University‘s David Neher, Neighbors‘ Jerrod Carmichael, Undatable‘s Rick Glassman and more.   Sacks represents a mixture of actors/writers/producers including Ken Jeong (Hangover), Blake Jenner (Glee), Kaitlin Olson (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Alexis Knapp (Pitch Perfect), Gabby Hoffmann (Field of Dreams) and more.  Scott works primarily in the touring division.

Fox announced today that is has renewed New Girl for a fourth season; FX has renewed The Americans for another 13-episode fourth season as well.

Other renewal news comes from Showtime who has renewed House of Lies for a fifth season.  Netflix just signed Bloodline for a second season.

Stay tuned as more announcements are expected…

     VS.

Susie Fox and Rachel Rusch, both currently with CAA are likely to exit CAA and move to UTA according to sources reporting to The Wrap.   A third agent is also considering the move, Chelsea McKinnies.   MeKinnies represents Anna Faris, wife of Chris Pratt who agreed to follow Jason Heyman and Martin Lesak to UTA earlier today.

CAA is not taking these exits lightly and have been looking into taking legal action, and you can well assume that the agency is doing everything in its power to keep clients, even if agents make a move.

Stay tuned as this continues to take twists and turns.

By Mayim Bialik on Mar 31, 2015 at 10:00 AM ET

Spring has sprung, and with it: Passover! It’s most people’s favorite Jewish holiday and I can’t say our family is an exception. My boys love it; they love the added responsibility that comes each year from learning more of the Four Questions to opening the door for Elijah with as little trepidation as possible.

Where?

As a divorced mama, I am grateful to my wonderful ex and our wonderful way we co-parent.

We will be at his house this year since my kitchen has been demolished for a remodel. This is frustrating because I love cooking and preparing, and I will have to limit that to whatever cooking and preparing I do at the ex’s. Silver lining: there’s barely anything to kasher (make kosher) because I have no kitchen! The ex gets to do all of the kashering at his house!

Protein?

What do vegans who don’t eat kitniyot do for protein? Well, we first of all get educated about how much protein you actually need, and we don’t flip out and feel like we are missing out on nutrition if we don’t eat a hunk of animal protein at every meal. (Even developed countries that have meat as a part of their diet don’t get the same enormous amount of protein we get in our diets, and they generally speaking do not have the rates of cancer, heart disease, and obesity that we have…just sayin’…Read Dr. Ornish’s recent New York Times editorial to find out more about protein!)

We eat a lot of quinoa. We eat it with mango, cashews, basil, and lime juice (the recipe is in just about every kosher cookbook!). We eat it with “trashy” (i.e. there’s corn syrup in it) Passover salad dressing. We eat it with ketchup. We basically eat it any way we can. We eat quinoa for breakfast, or lunch, or dinner, or a snack at least once a day during Passover.

We also eat avocados: a fantastic source of protein and healthy fats. Yum. We mash it for guacamole, put it on a piece of matzah, eat it plain with olive oil and sea salt. Anyway, anyhow, the answer is always avocado.

We eat nuts. Almonds and walnuts are good. Almond butter is delicious. We eat trail mix, handfuls as a snack. We eat nuts and it’s good protein and no one is hungry, I promise.

Five CAA agents have left the firm to join (or in the case of two of them rejoin) UTA as partners.  Jason Heyman, Martin Lesak, Greg Cavic, Nick Nuciforo and Gregory McKnight — have resigned in order to join UTA as partners.  Heyman and Lesak are rejoining UTA where they were previously partners, where Heyman will be a special board advisor to the Board of Directors.   Nuciforo will head up the comedy touring Division working with comediens such as Sarah Silverman and Chelsea Handler.

The five agents bring with them some big name clients such as Heyman who reps Jim Parsons, Seth Meyers, Mindy Kaling, Jason Sudeikis, Chelsea Handler, Ed Helms and Johnny Knoxville; Lesak brings Eric Stonestreet, Zooey Deschanel, Christ Hardwick, Jason Sudeikis, and Jim Gaffigan; and McKnight brings Gary Marshall, Robert Siegel, Leslye Headland, Breck Eisner and Rawson Marshall Thurber.

At this moment in time, all clients are expected to follow their agents.

If you weren’t obliged to have family and friends filling chairs around your table, who would you invite for Passover?

With the entire Jewish world and beyond to choose from, which people – past, present or fictional – would you want to break matzah with?

We asked 10 faces to pick eight guests to invite to a fantasy seder … Compiled by Fiona Leckerman for Jewish News UK

Host: Mayim Bialik, star of the Big Bang Theory

Sam Harris – We went to neuroscience grad school at UCLA together and he is my favorite atheist Jew ever. I don’t always agree with him, but he is brilliant and reasonable and thoughtful.

Billy Eichner – We met at the White House of all places, and before that I only knew that he does these crazy interviews and one featured him and Lindsay Lohan talking about me. I find him to be a fearless and hysterical comedian and he’s warm and heimish.

Sarah Silverman – Irreverent, perhaps. But so revolutionary. I would be fine if she came in jeans and a T-shirt and sneakers even.

Bill Prady – Our creator and executive producer on The Big Bang Theory. This man knows everything about everything and he is absolutely charming.

Eric Kaplan – Co-exec producer of The Big Bang Theory and author of Does Santa Exist? This is the guy who will catapult the seder into a philosophical and mystical journey.

Benjamin Netanyahu – Just so I can find out what’s going on in his head.

Lenny Kravitz – I need to have the experience of singing Chad Gadya with this man.

Jon Stewart – Such an influential voice for our times. Also probably sings a mean Chad Gadya.

William Hurt in AMC's new series 'Humans'

29 Mar 2015

William Hurt in AMC's new series 'Humans'

William Hurt in AMC’s new series ‘Humans’

Humans, a bold new eight-part drama series from Channel 4, Kudos and AMC, is set in a parallel present where the latest must-have gadget for any busy family is a ‘Synth’ – a highly-developed robotic servant eerily similar to its live counterpart. William Hurt plays George Millican, a widower who has formed a close relationship with his out-of-date synth Odi (played by Will Tudor), who he treats more like a son than a piece of machinery.

Written by British writing partnership Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley (Spooks, Spooks: The Greater Good), Humans is based on the award-winning Swedish sci-fi drama Real Humans.

Humans, which also stars Katherine Parkinson, Tom Goodman-Hill, Colin Morgan, Rebecca Front, Neil Maskell, and Gemma Chan, recently finished filming in and around London. The series will premiere on AMC this summer (2015).

The series is produced by Kudos (Utopia, Broadchurch, The Hour) in association with Matador Films (Real Humans).  Executive producers are Jane Featherstone (Broadchurch, Utopia, The Hour) and Derek Wax (The Hour, Occupation, Lip Service) for Kudos and produced by Chris Fry (The Smoke) for Kudos, and Henrik Widman and Lars Lundström for Matador Films. Commissioned for Channel 4 by Piers Wenger, Beth Willis and Simon Maxwell and Kristin Jones and Joel Stillerman for AMC. Distribution will be handled by Endemol Shine International.

Season Two of “Salem” Returns on Sunday, April 5 at 10:00 p.m. ET / 9:00 p.m. CT

WGN America will re-air the entire 13-episode first season of its hit supernatural series “Salem” on Saturday, April 4 starting at 7:00 a.m. ET / 6:00 a.m. CT, just in time for the highly anticipated second season, premiering Sunday, April 5 at 10:00 p.m. ET / 9:00 p.m. CT.

In SALEM, witches are real, but they are not who or what they seem.  Season two opens at the dawn of a Witch War.  As the disease and devastation unleashed by a deadly supernatural ritual spread through the war-torn village, Salem’s most powerful witch, Mary Sibley, must face off against adversaries old and new who are vying for her throne.

From creators and writers Brannon Braga (“Cosmos,” “24”) and Adam Simon (“The Haunting in Connecticut”), SALEM is a gripping one-hour drama that boldly re-imagines the infamous 17th-century witch trials in colonial Massachusetts.  The series stars Janet Montgomery (“Human Target,” “Made in Jersey”), Shane West(“Nikita,” “ER”), Seth Gabel (“Arrow,” “Fringe”), Ashley Madekwe (“Revenge”), Tamzin Merchant (“Jane Eyre”), Elise Eberle (“The Astronaut Farmer”) and Iddo Goldberg (“Mob City”).  New to the cast of “Salem” for season two are Lucy Lawless (“Xena: Warrior Princess”, “Spartacus”), Stuart Townsend (“Betrayal,” “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”), Joe Doyle (“Raw”) and Oliver Bell (“The Saint”).

“Salem” is executive produced by Brannon Braga, Adam Simon, Kelly Souders, Brian Peterson and Prospect Park’s Josh Barry and Jeff Kwatinez.  Nick Copus directs and serves as co-executive producer.  The series is produced by Fox 21 Television Studios.

Return for Second Season to Begin Production in April

LOS ANGELES– WGN America announced today that William Petersen (“CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”) has joined the cast of its critically acclaimed drama “Manhattan,” marking his return to television after his celebrated Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated 10-year run as Dr. Gilbert ‘Gil’ Grissom in the hit series “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.”  Produced by Lionsgate Television, Skydance Television and Tribune Studios, “Manhattan” will begin production on its second season in New Mexico in April for a 2015 debut on WGN America.

Petersen will play Colonel Emmett Darrow, the enigmatic new ranking military officer at Los Alamos, as a series regular for season two.  A deeply religious and patriotic man, Darrow feels called by God to usher in the atomic future, and to spread American values across the globe.

The ensemble cast of “Manhattan” includes Emmy®-nominated actor John Benjamin Hickey (“The Big C,” “The Good Wife”) as Frank Winter; Olivia Williams (“Rushmore,” “The Ghost Writer”) as Liza Winter; Daniel Stern (“Home Alone,” “Home Alone 2”) as Glen Babbit; Ashley Zukerman (“Rush”) as Charlie Isaacs; Rachel Brosnahan (“House of Cards”) as Abby Isaacs; Katja Herbers (“De Storm”) as Helen Prins; Alexia Fast (“Jack Reacher”) as Callie Winter; Christopher Denham (“Argo,” “Shutter Island”) as Jim Meeks; Harry Lloyd (“Game of Thrones”) as Paul Crosley; and Michael Chernus (“The Big C,” “Orange Is The New Black”) as Louis “Fritz” Fedowitz.
