BEVERLY HILLS, CALIF. – Sept. 28, 2015 – Netflix and CBS announced today an agreement to make Netflix the exclusive subscription streaming home of two hit series, ZOO and JANE THE VIRGIN, in more than 50 countries around the world.

The first season of ZOO is now available on Netflix in the U.S., and in the coming months will be available in all Netflix territories. On Monday, Oct. 12, season one of JANE THE VIRGIN will launch in the U.S., the same day season two premieres on The CW Network. JANE THE VIRGIN will be available later in 2015 or 2016 in all countries Netflix operates, except Canada.

“We’re thrilled to offer our members these hit CBS series,” said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer at Netflix. “Both shows are delightfully entertaining and will find a big audience across the more than 50 countries where Netflix is available.”

“We’re excited to partner with Netflix around the world for these two excellent, CBS-produced series,” said Armando Nuñez, President and CEO, CBS Global Distribution Group. “Both ZOO and JANE THE VIRGIN have already generated excitement in the U.S. and internationally, and we look forward to expanding their audience to Netflix members globally.”

British musician, Jamie Lawson was inspired by The Big Bang Theory while watching ‘The Prom Equivalency’  (Season 8, Episode 8) by listening to the words Sheldon Cooper spoke to Amy which led him to write ‘The Only Conclusion.’ “Basically Sheldon is struggling to understand his feelings with Amy Farrah-Fowler and he says something like ‘I’ve gone through all the options. The only conclusion is love’ and that was him admitting he was able to do that. I thought that was brilliant ‘The only conclusion is love’. I think I went straight to the piano and started writing that”. It’s just weird how things come about,” said Lawson.

Lawson said he feels ‘The Only Conclusion’ is probably his favorite song on the album because it was inspired while watching the episode on The Big Bang Theory.   “People are going to be very upset by that” Lawson joked when interviewed recently by Noise11.

Below is the scene that inspired him, clip courtesy of ©2015 CBS Broadcasting, Inc.  All Rights Reserved.

Lawson signed to Ed Sheeran’s new Gingerbread Man records label, the first artist to do so and his new album will be the first release for the label.   Lawson has previously released Last Night Stars album through Allotment Reocrdings in 2003; The Pull of the Moon through Lookout Mountain in 2010; a single ‘Wasn’t Expecting That’ through Universal Music Ireland in March 2011 and then an album under the same title in April 2011 through Lookout Mountain.   In September 2011 he released ‘Lucy Rocks’ single from the same album.   In April 2015 Lawson re-released his single “Wasn’t ExpectingThat’ through Atlantic Records.   In opened for One Direction for three nights of their 2015 ‘On the Road Again Tour.’

Lawson’s ‘The Only Conclusion’ will be featured on his new album, Jamie Lawson which is due to release October 9.

Lawson was asked if anyone from The Big Bang Theory has approached him about using the song in a future episode or on the show.  His response was “That would be amazing. Wouldn’t that be amazing?” but thus far because it has yet to be released, no one from the show is even aware of the song.   Our hope is that the show will learn of the  song and perhaps find a way to fit it into an episode!

You can pre-order Lawson’s new album on Amazon, iTunes or Google Play.

Sofia Vergara as Peg Bundy? Julie Bowen as Mary Tyler Moore? Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet as ‘Breaking Bad’s’ Walter White and Jesse Pinkman? As it contends for a sixth consecutive best comedy win, the series pays tribute to six television classics.

This story first appeared in the Sept. 25 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. To receive the magazine, click here to subscribe.

“My dream was getting Ed O’Neill to reprise his Married … With Children character, Al Bundy, with his current co-star Sofia Vergara as Peg Bundy,” says THR awards and special projects editor Stacey Wilson Hunt, who, with assistance from 20th Century Fox Television, helped re-create several beloved series on THR’s list of Hollywood’s 100 Favorite TV Shows (page 116) with the stars of Modern Family. O’Neill’s heart was set on Tony Soprano, but after some coaxing, he eventually agreed. In the end, the Dunphys paid tribute to six classics, including tableaus from Cheers, I Dream of Jeannie, Frasier, The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Breaking Bad. All were shot Sept. 2 on the Fox lot during a five-hour session that Hunt says was “incredibly calm.” Adds THR creative director Shanti Marlar, who visited the set, “This cast is a well-oiled machine and was really into the idea.”

Jamie Kaye-Phillips, Associate Producer of ‘An Act of God’ on Broadway Image: Duke.edu

Jamie Kaye-Phillips is a name many may not know yet, but they will know soon.   Kaye-Phillips, age 27, is originally from Rhode Island and moved to New York after graduating from Duke to go work for Jeffrey Finn, producer of ‘An Act of God’.    Kaye-Phillips went to work for Finn as his assistant and became exposed to every aspect of the business.  After a couple of years, Finn was going to develop and launch a play in which Kaye-Phillips approached Finn and asked “is there any way that we can’t  associate produce this with you?”  Finn gave him the chance on that play (which starred Alan Rickman).   Since then he has associate produced with Finn and An Act of God was no exception.

Kaye-Phillips describes the role he took on and what it was like working with Parsons, describing him as  “fabulous, he’s smart, incredibly funny, poised” and then went on to describe the play.

Jim Parsons in ‘An Act of God’ playing at Studio 54. Final week! Image: on Instagram

Broadway’s summer hit An Act of God breaks $1Mil to join the Million Dollar Club this past week with a 96.33% capacity!  Even more remarkable is that Broadway overall saw a 4.2% decline, yet An Act of God was one of the few exceptions to see  an increase.  See chart below of its historical track record.

As of July 12, 2015, the play had already exceeded it’s $2.9 Mil capital investment, so became profitable.   But it still had yet to achieve crossing that threshold of a $1Mil per week in sales until this past week.

Congratulations to Joe Mantello, David Javerbaum, Jim Parsons, Christopher Fitgerald, Tim Kazurinsky and the entire creative team and crew!   With only 6 days left before the play closes, time to get your tickets if you have not already seen the play.

Inside Bialik House. Former home of Israel's National Poet, Haim Nachman Bialik, an ancestor of Mayim Bialik.
Many of your favorite sitcom stars take a break from filming their regular shows in summer but are often busy with other engagements or projects. This series: On Hiatus follows some fan favorites until they return to work on their new seasons in August 2015.

It’s not too often that an employee gets a choice of where to go on assignment but when given the opportunity to choose of course you would select one of your favorite places and where your family could also travel along.  That’s exactly what happened to Mayim Bialik with her recent journey to Israel for CBS Watch Magazine.  After a harried trip to Paris on her 2013   location assignment, Bialik told The Jerusalem Post of her good fortune:

“I went with them to Paris two years ago and when they asked me where I wanted to do it this time, I said Israel. I was amazed they took me up on it.”

As with her previous experience, the majority of the crew was from France, Italy and England but had never visited Israel before but “I think that’s kind of amazing,” Bialik enthused as she described the crew’s response to Israel as “overwhelmingly positive.”

“The country is far more complicated and fantastic than they had imagined and they can go back and report that Israel is a beautiful place that people can tour and take children to and it has great food and nightlife…that’s an amazing outcome,” she stated.

Here she is with stylist  Fabio Mercurio in Tele Aviv.

Once the work week was completed Bialik who traveled to Israel with her children and (ex) mother-in-law for ten days, was able to visit friends and family. The actress who has family from her mother’s side that lives in the West Bank, has traveled with her children to the area before,  is aware that her arrival stirs controversy, shared her thoughts on this topic with the Jerusalem Post, “I don’t consider it a political statement to visit the West Bank and I avoid talking politics with them [her family].”   While savoring her visit she did reflect on the sobering effect that hate-filled statements on her social media accounts have on her.

“I’m very clear on what anti-Semitism looks like,“

“I’m very clear on what anti-Semitism looks like,“

“I’m very clear on what anti-Semitism looks like, and she emphasized in the interview that the hate is not connected to her politics, but solely her presence in Isreal.  She has let it be known that her accounts are not a place for hate, by asserting she would take action on those who choose to spread their venomous comments.

Bialik, who has often spoken of the community feel she encounters in Israel, continues to express her undeterred love and support for the country, offered on this occasion that she, “revels in the safety and comfort she feels when she brings her two sons to Israel. Referring to the small size of the country and the relaxed and warm culture, she feels she can give her children more independence when visiting Israel. “I’ve been asked to watch other people’s kids while they run into the supermarket – it’s like one big family,” she says by way of explanation.”

Once her sojourn was complete she returned to her home in LA to prepare for her next set of appointments, we now know for one that she would be headed to the San Diego Comic Con. There she would once again be answering the burning questions about the Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler relationship on The Big Bang Theory, where the Emmy-nominated actress would return in August, for her sixth season with the show.

The season 8 finale cliffhanger left fans wondering if there was a break up with of the beloved popular sitcom couple and what their romantic future holds after closing with a heartbroken Sheldon, played by Jim Parsons, holding a possible engagement ring. While in Israel, Bialik claimed to the Jerusalem Post : “that she knew nothing about the show writers’ future plans, she anticipates “whatever works with the strangeness that is Sheldon and Amy – it’s clear that neither of them will ever have a conventional relationship.”

The Big Bang Theory cast returns from hiatus on August 5th with the season 9 premiere scheduled for Monday, September 21st on CBS.

The long awaited Deadpool seemingly is not going to disappoint.  Shown before a packed Hall H, the crowd roared, screamed, clapped avidly following the trailer shown during the panel.   It has been hailed by other media as the “best received trailer at Comic-Con” and definitely wow’d the fans, leaving them asking for more.   February 12, 2016 cannot come fast enough for them.

Reynolds was not the only member of the team on the panel.  Others included co-stars T.J. Miller, Morena Baccarin, Briana Hildebrand, Ed Skrein and Gina Carano as well as director Tim Miller.

“[It’s] the most faithful adaptation of a comic book to a movie I’ve ever seen,” Reynolds remarked. “I’ve only ever done one other proper, actually not proper, superhero movie,” he teased, tossing shade about his less than well received portrayal of The Green Lantern.  Not only did he remark about it on the panel, but in the actual film he makes fun of his Green Lantern role as well, through some witty dialog that showed in the trailer.

Ryan Reynolds resurrected the character that was introduced in X-Men Origins: Wolverine in the 20th Century Fox film, Deadpool, but Reynolds wanted the role to remain true to the comic book version of the character, which meant a lot of strong language and profanity would be included.  It would also involve high action and violence.   He knew that is what fans wanted and even leaked a test version on YouTube which stunned Fox with how well received the test version proved to be.

The trailer released proved the R-rating was standing with high  action, violence, a sex scene and a lot of profanity.  Following the viewing the audience gave the panel a standing ovation in Hall H and chanted “One More Time!”.

“For one I think it’s an absolute miracle that a studio let us make ‘Deadpool’ let alone a Rated R Deadpool,” Reynolds commented, pleased that Fox gave him the greenlight to move forward after the test leak.  The R-rated superhero flick is making history by holding that rating, pleasing fans because it means that the film is likely remaining true to the comic series.  The panel also stayed R-rated with strong language throughout.

Reynolds would love to see the Deadpool character return to X-Men and later posed with Marvel’s Fantastic Four and X-Men cast members in photos.

Marvel’s Deadpool script is penned by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and produced by Simon Kinberg, Ryan Reynolds and Lauren Shuler Donner.  It will hit theaters February 12, 2016 in the US, February 5, 2016 in the United Kingdom and in many foreign markets February 11, 2016 from 20th Century Fox.

Martin Freeman (Watson) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) in upcoming Christmas Victorian-era set of BBC’s Sherlock.

Updated 7/10/2015:   See clip below from the 2015 Comic-Con Sherlock panel.

Below check out the first clip of a Victorian era-set Sherlock Christmas Special which debuted this week at Comic-Con.   Executive Producers Steven Moffat and Sue Vertue and actor Rupert Graves (Lestrade) were present to present the clip and answer a frenzied crowd of fans. The highly anticipated Christmas special will see a theatrical release in select theaters hopefully this year, but it was not confirmed with any given date.   Moffat remarked “When this special goes out, and we hope certainly in our year, it will also, in selected cinemas around the world, to compliment that first broadcast be available to you on the big screen.”

Fans, of course, wanted to know more about season four where Moffat shocked the audience who had placed the question about the scripts for season four in past tense, by suggesting to the dismayed crowd that the writing is still in the future.  Vertue teased the audience that there would be plenty of “cliffhangers” and “suckerpunches to assuage  the fans.  Season four dates are yet to be determined.

The popular Andrew Scott (Moriarty) was video recorded with a message where he was reading a script for the upcoming Bond film, Spectre, the video played before the crowd, where Scott called Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) and Mark Gatiss (Mycroft), expressing their regrets for their inability to attend Comic-Con.

Sherlock fans were left with quite a cliff-hanger at the end of Season 3 and had run across a photo with Martin Freeman (Watson) and Cumberbatch in the Victorian-era clothing in late 2014.  Moffat hinted that there would be a standalone project set in the Victorian era this past March.

Sherlock airs on BBC and on PBS in the USA.

Reveals the hard facts behind the laughter on TV’s most popular sitcom

The highest-rated scripted show on TV, “The Big Bang Theory” often features Sheldon, Howard, Leonard, and Raj wisecracking about scientific principles as if Penny and the rest of us should know exactly what they’re talking about.   lets all of us in on the punchline by breaking down the show’s scientific conversations. From an explanation of why Sheldon would think 73 is the best number, to an experiment involving the physical stature of Wolowitz women, to an argument refuting Sheldon’s assertion that engineers are the Oompa-Loompas of science, author Dave Zobel maintains a humorous and informative approach and gives readers enough knowledge to make them welcome on Sheldon’s couch. (ECW Press)

“Beware. Reading this delightful book will allow you to understand what Sheldon Cooper is really saying. And who knows where that might lead. Bazinga!” — Ira Flatow, host of Science Friday and two-time guest star on The Big Bang Theory

“As Dave Zobel has shown in his fascinating new book, television’s The Big Bang Theory offers a wellspring of clever scientific references amidst its quirky dialogue. Impress the Sheldons and Amys in your life with the vast array of insights the book provides. Fun, savvy and at just the right level!” — Paul Halpern, author of What’s Science Ever Done for Us?: What The Simpsons Can Teach Us about Physics, Robots, Life, and the Universe and Einstein’s Dice and Schrödinger’s Cat: How Two Great Minds Battled Quantum Randomness to Create a Unified Theory of Physics.

“Whether you’re a hardcore fan or you’ve only seen a couple of episodes, this book will give you a glimpse of the way science geeks see the world, and why they find science so much fun. Zobel won’t steer you wrong. The documentation and fact checking are impeccable.” — F.D. Flam, Forbes Magazine science columnist

The Science of TV’s The Big Bang Theory . . . covers an astonishing variety of material — a bathroom book in the very best sense of the word. . . . Zobel is a consistently entertaining but full-bore writer, so brace yourself for a fire hose of good puns, bad puns, vividly visual metaphors, satirical asides and inside jokes.” —The California Tech
