An Act of God dipped slightly this week, the first full week of previews, but still remains strong. Because of some lottery giveaway tickets in the orchestra seating area, a dip in gross numbers was expected, but the audience attendance rates remained strong. An Act of God is not a big, well-known entity. It is a new play and yet it has attracted a large number of ticket-purchasers who have left the theater laughing and well pleased.
Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and say it is one of the most hilarious plays ever seen. Javerbaum’s wit exceeds himself and Jim Parson’s is a pure divine delight, called “brilliant” and “charming” who many think is a Tony contender next year.
An Act of God is a 90-minute comedy where the Almighty and His devoted angels answer some of the deepest questions that have plagued mankind since Creation. He’s finally arrived to set the record straight… and He’s not holding back!
An Act of God is written by David Javerbaum and directed by Joe Mantello, starring Jim Parsons and co-starring Christopher Fitzgerald and Tim Kazurinsky. Parsons’ body is inhabited by God who has a few things he would like to tell mankind. Fitzgerald plays the Archangel Michael, while Kazurinsky plays the Archangel Gabriel.
Officially opening next week on May 28th at 6:30 PM , An Act of God is a limited-run play that can be seen at Studio 54 now (in previews) through August 2.
