Toronto Film Festival announced festival winners today, giving the top prize of People’s Choice Award to ‘The Imitation Game’ which stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Kiera Knightly and Matthew Goode, directed by Morten Tyldum, and distributed by the Weinstein Company. The festival was 10 days in length, covering hundreds of films.

‘The Imitation Game’ Premiered in Telluride where it also was a large crowd pleaser. However, the significance is that 100 nominations and 40 Oscars have come to films that have won Toronto’s top prize, even though the top prize is voted on by fans instead of industry insiders. Last year 12 Years a Slave was also voted by fans for this award.

It may be too early to tell, but thus far, all indications are that this film at a minimum should realize some nominations for the upcoming Oscar season.
