The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the Golden Globe award nominees this morning and the list of films nominated were not a big surprise. Boyhood, Birdman and The Imitation Game garnered the most nominations. On the Television side, however, there were some big surprises. Broadcast Network TV was pretty much snubbed and out of the running altogether.
The film announcements are a good indicator of what we might be able to expect at the Oscars. There were not really any big surprises.
We believe, however, the nominations at both the SAG awards and Golden Globe awards this year are glaringly showing that on the Television side there need to be complete revamping of the awards, separating out Broadcast shows from all the other shows because the rules are vastly different. Likewise the categories are still being fudged when you have a show that is 90% drama showing up under a comedy category and garnering nominations under Comedy. It appears the foreign press is totally turning away from broadcast networks shows
