CBS today announced its summer schedule with original series across five nights of the week, including thenew event series BRAINDEAD and AMERICAN GOTHIC, the sophomore season of ZOO, based on James Patterson’s #1 bestselling novel, and the return of the summer reality hit BIG BROTHER.

BRAINDEAD, from Robert and Michelle King, acclaimed creators and executive producers of THE GOOD WIFE, premieres Monday, June 13 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT). The event series is a comic-thriller set in the world of Washington, D.C. politics that follows Laurel (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), a young, fresh-faced Hill staffer who discovers two things: the government has stopped working, and bugs are eating the brains of Congress members and Hill staffers.

BIG BROTHER, hosted by Julie Chen, will once again have three weekly episodes. It debuts with a special two-hour premiere, on Wednesday, June 22 (8:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT), followed by the Thursday broadcast on June 23 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT), Sunday’s installment on June 26 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) and its regular Wednesday time period onJune 29 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT). Last summer, all three editions of BIG BROTHER ranked among the top 10 summer series in adults 18-49, adults 18-34 and adults 25-54.

The suspenseful new murder mystery AMERICAN GOTHIC premieres Wednesday, June 22 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT). The series, from Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television, is about a prominent Boston family reeling in the wake of the chilling discovery that someone in their midst is linked to an infamous string of murders. As shocking secrets from the past and present are revealed, their mounting suspicion and paranoia that one of them is a killer threatens to tear the family apart.

ZOO, last summer’s #1 scripted series, returns for its second season with a special two-hour premiere,Tuesday, June 28 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) before moving to its regular Tuesday (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) time period July 5. In season two, the danger escalates as the animal mutation moves to phase two, and they begin attacking infrastructure and creating deadly environmental phenomena in an effort to make the planet uninhabitable. Also, the team discovers a shocking mutation that threatens the life of one of their own.

Series Comes From Robert and Michelle King, Creators and Executive Producers of “The Good Wife”

NEW YORK – Oct. 15, 2015 – Aaron Tveit will star in “BrainDead,” a new comic-thriller set in the world of Washington, D.C. politics, to be broadcast in summer 2016. The series comes from Robert and Michelle King, creators and executive producers of “The Good Wife.”

Tveit will play Gareth, a Republican operative whose wit is only trumped by his pragmatism. The Legislative Director to a top Republican senator, Gareth is smart, hard-working, and ultimately responsible for helping to save the world.

“We’re thrilled that Aaron will be joining ‘BrainDead,’” said executive producers Robert and Michelle King. “We’re huge fans of his work – he’s spectacular on stage and screen – and think he’ll be a fantastic opponent-slash-love-interest for Mary Elizabeth Winstead.”

Aaron Tveit’s feature film credits include “Les Miserables” and “Premium Rush.” His television credits include the series “Graceland” and a recurring role on “Gossip Girl.” On Broadway, he originated the roles of Gabe in “Next to Normal” and Frank Abagnale, Jr. in the stage version of “Catch Me If You Can.”

STUDIO CITY, CALIF. – Mary Elizabeth Winstead will star in “BrainDead,” a new comic-thriller set in the world of Washington, D.C. politics, to be broadcast in summer 2016. The series comes from Robert and Michelle King, creators and executive producers of “The Good Wife.”

Winstead will portray Laurel, the daughter of a Democratic political dynasty who left Washington, D.C. to become a documentary filmmaker, but is pulled back into the family business when her brother, the senate majority whip, needs her help running his senate office. Now a young, fresh-faced Hill staffer, Laurel discovers two things: The government has stopped working, and alien spawn have come to Earth and eaten the brains of a growing number of congressmen and Hill staffers.

“We’ve been fans of Mary going back to ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,’ but it was really her extraordinary work in ‘Smashed’ and ‘Alex of Venice’ that had us imagining Laurel’s lines coming out of her mouth,” said Robert and Michelle King. “She’s fantastic at mixing comedy and drama, and keeping it all vulnerable, yet real. We can’t wait to see what she does with Laurel.”

Winstead is well-known for her roles in the horror films “Final Destination 3,” “Black Christmas,” “Death Proof,” “The Thing” and “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.” Her additional film credits include “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” “Smashed” and “Alex of Venice.” Her television credits include the series “The Returned.” Coming up, she will appear in the PBS drama “Mercy Street” and the films “Valencia,” with John Goodman, and “Swiss Army Man,” with Daniel Radcliffe and Paul Dano.

This month, Winstead will be on the road for a handful of showcase performances with Got a Girl, a musical duo featuring Winstead and music producer Dan the Automator. Formed in 2012, the band’s first studio album, I Love You But I Must Drive Off This Cliff Now, was released in 2014.

STUDIO CITY, CALIF. – CBS has given a straight-to-series order for 13 episodes of “BrainDead,” a one-hour comic-thriller from Robert and Michelle King, acclaimed creators and executive producers of “The Good Wife.” The series will be broadcast in summer 2016.

“BrainDead” is the first project from Robert and Michelle King as part of their new three-year producing deal with CBS Television Studios. “BrainDead” will be executive produced and written by the Kings. Ridley Scott, David Zucker and Liz Glotzer will serve as executive producers for CBS Television Studios, Scott Free Productions and King Size Productions, all of whom previously collaborated on “The Good Wife.” Judy Smith will serve as co-executive producer.
