CBS Moves Development for First-Run Syndication Into the

Network’s Daytime Programming Operation

CBS announced today that its program development unit for syndicated series will become part of the CBS Television Network’s daytime programming operation. Angelica McDaniel, head of CBS’s top-rated daytime lineup, has been named to a new position that will oversee both Network daytime programming and new series development for syndication.

In her new post, McDaniel will take on the added responsibility of leading development for all new first-run programming at CBS Television Distribution (CTD), the industry’s leading domestic syndication company. She will be responsible for creating programming across all genres including talk, court, newsmagazines and game shows.

In her new combined role, McDaniel will continue to report to CBS Entertainment Chairman Nina Tassler for CBS’s daytime programming, while reporting to both Tassler and Armando Nuñez, President and CEO of CBS Global Distribution Group, for her new syndication duties.

Under McDaniel, CBS Daytime has enjoyed creative and ratings momentum, and she has infused the lineup with programming and promotional synergies between the shows. She also oversees CBS’s Saturday morning educational/informational teen-targeted programming block, THE CBS DREAM TEAM, IT’S EPIC!

“This move will combine creative resources and increase synergies with the most successful daytime programming operation in television,” said Nuñez. “It is a structure that works creatively and financially for the Company, and most importantly, it will effectively serve our owned stations, and all of our broadcast clients across the country. We look forward to working with Angelica and her team to develop the next generation of shows for syndication.”

“Angelica is an executive force of nature who brings incredible energy to everything she touches,” said Tassler. “She has a non-stop creative mind, is never afraid to think big and she is always in tune, if not a step ahead, with the audience who watches our shows. Angelica and the entire daytime team are excited for this new opportunity.”

As part of the restructuring, CTD’s current President of Creative Affairs Hilary Estey McLoughlin will segue into a production deal with CBS Television Distribution. Elaine Bauer Brooks will remain as Executive Vice President of Development at CTD, becoming part of McDaniel’s expanded department. Joe Ferullo, Executive Vice President of Current Programming at CTD, will continue in his role supervising the division’s portfolio of 8 current first-run series, reporting directly to Nuñez.

McDaniel joined CBS in August 2010 as Vice President, Current Daytime Programs, overseeing the launch of the successful franchise THE TALK.  Under her day-to-day creative leadership, THE TALK has grown 25% percent in four years. She quickly rose to Senior Vice President, Daytime in February 2012, overseeing daytime dramas THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS and THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL and game shows THE PRICE IS THE RIGHT and LET’S MAKE A DEAL.

Prior to joining CBS, McDaniel was a creative executive in the Telepictures/Warner Bros. program development department. She also served as the current executive on the fifth season of “The Tyra Banks Show.” From June 2007 to March 2009, McDaniel was Creative Director of New Media for Telepictures Productions, spearheading digital initiatives, social media strategies and web integrations for “The Ellen Degeneres Show,” “TMZ,” “Essence,” “The Bonnie Hunt Show,” “Extra,” “The Tyra Banks Show” and “MomLogic.”
