On the heels of its previous success with globally-minded programs such as “The Honorable Woman” and “Top of the Lake,” SundanceTV is set to premiere Deutschland 83 on Wednesday, June 17 at 11 PM ET. The engaging, eight-part coming-of-age narrative is set within a suspenseful drama, illustrating the real events, culture wars, and political realities of Germany in the 1980s.
Created by Anna Winger and Joerg Winger, “Deutschland 83” had its exclusive world premiere during the inaugural Berlinale Special Series at the 65th Berlinale International Film Festival. It recently took home the Best World Drama award at the annual Séries Mania festival. The narrative follows Martin Rauch, born and raised in East Germany, who is sent undercover to West Germany as a reluctant spy for the Stasi Foreign Service. Hiding in plain sight in the West German army, this inexperienced covert agent must gather the secrets of NATO military strategy. Everything is new, nothing is quite what it seems and everyone he encounters is harboring secrets, both political and personal.
