Sony Pictures TV, the studio behind ABC’s popular sitcom The Goldbergs has just signed a streaming service deal with Hulu for the series, which just premiered it’s third season September 23.
The Goldbergs is about a family in the 1980’s based loosely on the life of Adam Goldberg, who is the series creator and Executive Producer. It takes place when Adam was 11 years old, carrying around a video camera and capturing the antics of his nutty, but loving family. Wendi McLendon-Covey plays Adam’s mother, Jeff Garlin plays Murray, Adam’s father and Judd Hirsch is taking over Paul Sorvino’s portryal of Adam’s grandfather, Albert “Pops” Solomon. Adam is played by Sean Giambrone.
Doug Robinson, Seth Gordon, Alex Barnow, and Marc Firek (for Sony TV and Happy Madison), also executive produce, with Annette Sahaklan, David Kateznberg, Lew Schneider and Chris Bishop co-executive producing the show.
Under the streaming deal The Goldbergs will be available on both tiers of Hulu’s subscription service with limited and no commercials.
ABC has had a deal that will still continue with Hulu to carry the five most recently aired episodes of The Godbergs on Hulu’s free, ad-supported platform.
Word is that The Goldbergs deal is exclusive for streaming only, and Sony could also sell the show in broadcast and cable syndication.
