A new app- Shoto- attempts to solve this problem by telling a user how many photos at a particular place or event were taken with friends or family members and easily lets them share photos and create private or public albums. And that is not even the best part.
Part of Shoto’s $1.5 million in funding has come from Kunal Nayyar who plays Raj Koothrappali in the popular American sitcom “The Big Bang Theory“. The other part has been invested by Real Ventures.
The idea for the product hit Duggal when, after a trip to Yosemite with 13 of his friends, they couldn’t figure out how to share the 4,500 pictures they had taken at the national park- email, Whatsapp or Dropbox, all seemed cumbersome options, and got Duggal thinking.
“I know Kunal’s older brother Anmol, and we were chatting in a hotel in London and we just had an exit from our last company. I was very focused on this photo problem, and Kunal said if you’re doing this, I am in,” recalled Duggal, when asked about the Indian origin actor’s involvement in the venture.
Shoto worked closely with renowned user interface designer Mark Rolston of argodesign, as its Chief Creative Officer. “Before Shoto we had to use multiple apps to exchange photos, and manually organize pictures from an event,” said Rolston.
