The 21st Annual Critics’ Choice Awards were held on Jan 17, 2016 at the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica, CA at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT. The Red Carpet coverage will begin an hour earlier at 7 PM ET/4 PM PT. A&E covered the Red Carpet as well as the ceremonies which were also covered by Lifetime and LMN networks. Red carpet coverage was hosted by Entertainment Tonight’s Samantha Harris and Kevin Frazier along with Fandango’s Dave Karger.
TJ Miller hosted the event, with a star-studded list of presenters including:Anthony Anderson, Aziz Ansari, Shiri Appleby, Mayim Bialik, Kate Beckinsale, Mary J. Blige, Orlando Bloom Carrie Brownstein, Jaime Camil, James Corden, Bryan Cranston, Bryce Dallas Howard, Adam Devine, America Ferrera, Joanne Froggatt, Colin Hanks, Bradley James, Ken Jeong, Khloe Kardashian, Thomas Middleditch, Randall Park, Josh Peck, Fred Savage, John Stamos, Sir Patrick Stewart, Sharon Stone, Justin Theroux, Liv Tyler, Tracee Ellis Ross, Constance Wu, and Constance Zimmer.
Amy Shumer received the “Critics’ Choice MVP Award” while Industrial Light and Magic (ILM) received the “Critics’ Choice Genius Award” presented by JJ Abrams.
Outlander won the Most Bingeworthy Award during an audience vote before and during the awards ceremony which was hosted by William Shatner.
Mad Max: Fury Road took away the most wins tonight, including Best Action Film Award. Spotlight wins the top trophy with Best Picture award along with Best Acting Ensemble and Best Original Screenplay. Best Actress went to Brie Larson for her riveting performance in Room, while Leonardo Di Caprio won Best Actor for his role in The Revenant. Alicia Vikander and Sylvester Stalone won Best Supporting Actress and Actor, for their roles in The Danish Girl and Creed, respectively.
For Television, Mr. Robot won Best Drama Series, while Master of None won for Best Comedy Series. A first win for Mayim Bialik won Best Supporting Actress in a Television Comedy for her role in The Big Bang Theory, while Andre Braugher won Best Supporting Actor in a Television Comedy for his role in Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Jeffrey Tambor won for Best Actor in a Television Comedy for his role in Transparent and Rachel Bloom for Best Actress in a Television Comedy for her role in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Fargo took away the Best Movie or Limited Series Award along with cast members Jean Smart winning Best Supporting Actress, Kirsten Dunst for Best Actress, and Jesse Plemmons for Best Supporting Actor awards.
