The Big Bang Theory has a reason to celebrate. Tonight Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios held an official cast and crew celebration event to honor achieving 200 episodes for the wildly popular sitcom at Vibiana in Los Angeles, California. Photos and any other media we are able to get from the event we will be posting here (see below) throughout the evening and after the event as new media arise.
The pilot first aired on September 24, 2007 where audiences were introduced the Penny (Kaley Cuoco), Leonard (Johnny Galecki), Sheldon (Jim Parsons), Howard (Simon Helberg) and Raj (Kunal Nayyar) for the first time. But it was the second actual pilot made that was aired.
The first pilot, starred Galecki and Parsons, but had a street-wise and drunk girl named Kate (Amanda Walsh), who Leonard and Sheldon invite to their apartment to share since they felt bad for her. The boys had a female friend named Gilda (Iris Bahr) as well. The pilot was completed May 1, 2006 and tested and rejected by the network, but with the invitation for them to re-work the project. After retooling the story and coming up with the idea of Penny living across the hall and being a down-on-her-luck wannabe actress and introducing Howard and Raj, the show was picked up and the rest became history.
The pilot episode was directed by Emmy® award winner James Burrows and created, written and executive produced by Emmy® award nominees Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady. Emmy® award nominee Michael Collier produced the pilot episode and Mary T. Quigley along with Emmy® award winner Joe Bella co-produced the episode. Emmy® award winner Peter Chakos edited the episode. Emmy® award winner John Shaffner was the art director on the premiere episode.
Anticipating that the show could loose some steam if they continued with just the original five characters, it was in Season 3 that the characters of Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) and Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik) were introduced, injecting new life and new story arc opportunities for the show. Penny now had a gal posse that she could lead and with willing followers. The boys now how more social interaction because their circle increased in size and also gave them new challenges of entering into new relationships. We watched Howard go from a sleezy hit on anything with a skirt kind of guy to a devoted husband to Bernadette. Sheldon fought hard his feelings for Amy and was determined to have her not be his girlfriend at first, that was until other men started to show interest in her in which case he immediately asked her to become his girlfriend. He then fought his growing feelings both emotionally and physically and in Season 9 we finally saw the full culmination of his relationship with Amy realized.
The journey that The Big Bang Theory has taken viewers on has been hilarious, heartwarming and delightful. As the boys enter into new relationship status and mature into men with adult responsibilities, it will be fun to watch them juggle starting families, dealing with career challenges, and even question whether or not they are where they wanted to be at this time in their lives. Fans look forward to seeing many more episodes ahead and watching these boys mature, grow and still fight every step of the way as they always have to get there. Many more laughs lie ahead and we thank the entire cast and crew (yes, guest cast members, as well, because they all are important to the shows success), who have brought us many laughs, tears, frustrations, pain, and joy. We cannot wait to see what lies ahead.
