Successfully hosting both the Emmy Awards and the Tony Awards, the Academy of Motion Picture and Sciences have tapped into Neil Patrick Harris’ talent and skill as a host and he has agreed to host the 87th Annual Academy Awards. He brings his own unique quality to hosting awards shows that have won over many audiences, usually opening with a large song and dance number.
Ellen DeGeneres, who hosted last years event, passed on the offer to host the 87th Annual Awards ceremony, as did Julia Louis-Dryfus.
How did the news break? From Neil Patrick Harris himself. Using Instagram, he showed a “bucket list” after saying on the phone “I’m In” and circled hosting the Oscars on his list:
Neil Meron, Producer for the Oscars wrote “so thrilled” to have Mr. Harris at the helm.” And of course, the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences also confirmed the statement. The Awards show is scheduled to air February 22, 2015.
Harris first entered fame as the young Dr. Doogie Houser, but has gone on to be recognized as the womanizing Barney on How I Met Your Mother and most recently starred with Ben Affleck in Gone Girl. It is worthy to note he did cross off of his list, showing his humor, “star in a TV show” and “saw a lady in half”. Fans across the world are looking forward to seeing Harris host the most prestigious film event of the year.
