Neil Patrick Harris and his husband, David Burtka have both been cast in Ryan Murhphy’s American Horror Story: Freak Show. Harris will play a chameleon salesman, whereas Burtka will have a romantic storyline with Jessica Lange’s character, Elsa Mars. Harris will appear in the last two episodes of the season, Burtka in the season finale.
This is not the first time that Harris and Burtka have worked together. Burtka appeared in several episodes on How I Met Your Mother, where Harris played the lead character, Barney Stinson. Harris currently is starring in Gone Girl on the big screen, after just completing his run of Hedgwig and the Angry Inch on Broadway.
Harris has worked with Ryan Murphy as a guest star on Glee in the past and when Harris approached Murphy expressing interest to join the show, Murphy replied “I have a role I think you’d love” and they managed to work out a deal.
Freak Show is the current season focus of the American Horror Story francchise. It centers around a 1950’s central Florida freak show.
