Two years ago (May 2012), Fox Distribution Executive Gavin Smith was reported missing. Last week his body was located in Angeles National Forest, according to a law enforcement source. Smith had been at FOX for approximately 18 years in their Calabasas Office before he went missing.
Smith, had last been seen driving away from his friends home in his black Mercedes 420E. In February 2013, the car was discovered in a storage locker in Simi Valley. The locker was traced to John Creech, who was serving a prison sentence at the time. Several home searches were done at the home of Creech and his wife. Creech’s wife had met Smith in rehab. The case, based on evidence found was reclassified from a missing person to a homicide.
“Evidence in (the locker) and from other sources has led investigators in the case to preliminarily reclassify this as a homicide,” a spokesperson from the Sheriff’s Department said at the time.
While the case is being treated as a homicide, no suspects have yet to be named. Nor have autopsy results been released.
“On Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014, human remains were found in the rural area of Palmdale, and the remains were identified to be 57-year-old Gavin Smith. The autopsy results have not been finalized, and the cause of death has not been determined,” Deputy Sheriff Kelvin Moody reported. “The investigation is still ongoing.”
Smith had been declared dead 6 months ago, but now the family has some closure.
