The 68th Annual Directors Guild of America (DGA) announced the nominees for Feature Film category.   Documentary films will be announced on Wednesday.

Alejandro G. Iñárritu, last year’s winner  is again headlining the list for his direction of the film The Revenant.  This is his fourth nomination from the DGA.   Also on the list of nominees are George Miller for Mad Max: Fury Road; Tom McCarthy for Spotlight; Adam McKay for The Big Short; and Ridley Scott for The Martian.

A new category was added this year for Outstanding Directorial Achievement for A First Time Feature Film Director.  To be eligible, directors for the first-time directors award, the director had to have released their first feature-length film theatrically in Los Angeles or New York in 2015. Foreign films are eligible and the director does not need to be a DGA member.

This is Mr. Iñárritu’s fourth DGA Award nomination. He won the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film in 2014 for Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance). He was also nominated in this category for Babel in 2006. He won the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Commercials for “Best Job” (Procter & Gamble) in 2012.
