John Ritter was one of the most beloved actors in Hollywood. At age 29, he began starring in the regular Thursday-night sitcom, Threes Company, which went off air 30 years ago. Now his son Tyler Ritter is following his father’s footsteps and at age 29 will be co-starring in ‘The McCarthys’ a CBS sitcom that will air on Thursday nights beginning October 30th at 9/8c. Tyler will be playing an openly gay man on The McCarthys in a strong Irish rooted family who live in Boston.
In a recent interview with E! Tyler talks of growing up in a family with open communication and who spent a lot of time heading out of the Hollywood area to get away from being jaded by Tinseltown and all of the trappings that come with living there. His parents, obsessed with the Beattle, often used lyrics from their songs as a basis for how to put into practice raising a family and that was to practice hard work and “all you need is love”. It helped keep he and his older, brother Jason well grounded. Jason Ritter is also enjoying success with acting as a series regular in Parenthood, Gravity Falls, and Us & Them, as well as filming several movies that are due to come out in 2015. Both men are known to carry the “nice” gene that their father had and have reputations as being two of the nicest guys in Hollywood.
The McCarthys are sitcom about an adult gay non-jock male, beset by his sports-loving Boston family and yearning to move out-of-state, somehow ends up staying home to help his dad coach a high school basketball team. Along with Tyler, the series stars Laurie Metcalf, Jack McGee, Joey McIntyre, Jimmy Dunn and Kelen Coleman.
