On The View, Rauch talked quite a bit about The Bronze and the preparation that went into the film.  The acrobatic sex scene was definitely of interest by the ladies and a lot of discussion took place about the scene. Rauch also talked about meeting Carol Burnett for the first time and then later at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards event.   She also participated in “Rapid Fire Questions” on the show.   She also touched on her role on The Big Bang Theory.

I’m going to be super honest right now–sometimes it’s hard to be happy for people when they have success you want for yourself. As an actor, I run into this all of the time. But here’s the thing about a real deeply connected friendship: you are so happy for the other person’s success, even if you crave it for yourself.

This is how it is with Melissa Rauch, who plays Bernadette on “The Big Bang Theory” with me. She co-wrote and is starring in her very own movie called “The Bronze,” and it comes out this Friday, March 18. It got huge rave reviews when it premiered at Sundance Film Festival–it is simply a powerhouse of a movie.

I excitedly interviewed Melissa about some of the things I wanted to know about the actual process of making a movie–particularly one about a former bronze-medal-winning gymnast who has to come to terms with her new life as a trainer of the next hot gymnast, with a chip on her shoulder and a potty-mouth that is as hysterical as it is startling.

Tell me in a nutshell what “The Bronze” is about.

“The Bronze” is about Hope Ann Greggory, a female gymnast who has been milking small town fame from her Bronze medal victory for way too long. She’s really stuck in a rut when we meet her: living in her father’s basement and unsure of how to move onto the next phase of her life. All of that changes, however, when she’s faced with the decision to either train a new rising star in town–or sabotage her in order to preserve her own legacy.

A lot of people may not know that in addition to being an actress, you have been writing for a long time. What kinds of stories are you interested in telling as a writer, and what in particular felt compelling about telling this story?

I’m most interested in writing the stories of flawed women (read: real), who are raw characters with layers that need to be peeled back. The attempt is always to ground their stories first, then crank up the comedy with the characters who inhabit that world. I like creating anything that helps me to contextualize an experience of life I’m struggling to understand personally.

One of these experiences is that of fame. It’s a weirdly magnetic and seductive force in American culture, yet it if you do attain it, it has literally no substance and it’s incredibly fickle. For example, early in my career, I suddenly had national weekly visibility working as a talking head comedian on Vh1’s “Best Week Ever.” During that time, I went to the food court of my local mall in New Jersey, and scored a free Wetzel Pretzel from being recognized, and this happened each time I went (in what became a bizarre, yet lovely ego-boosting ritual).

A year or so later, I was off the show and out of work, and the same kiosk manager who’d regularly gifted me the pretzel charged me full price. “The Bronze” is an exploration of a star’s rise and fall from a pedestal–a topic that has long been a source of fascination for me and my husband (who co-wrote the film and has witnessed all the peaks and valleys of my career).

Johnny Galecki is best known as Leonard on The Big Bang Theory, but after 10 seasons on the CBS sitcom, he wanted more from his stable career as a “hired gun” actor. Sifting through various projects in search of the right one to produce, the 40-year-old ultimately discovered The Master Cleanse, a horror/drama/comedy project from first-time filmmaker Bobby Miller.

The Master Cleanse delves into creature feature territory, with Galecki playing a lonely man who attends a spiritual retreat that promises to cleanse and purify his life, but ends up literally releasing his inner demons. Ahead of the film’s SXSW world premiere on March 13, EW has an exclusive, creepy clip from The Master Cleanse, above, and an interview with the Emmy-nominated actor.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: You’ve had a very diverse career, from Christmas Vacation toRoseanne and The Big Bang Theory. With The Master Cleanse, were you looking for something strange to counteract the tone of the roles people might associate with you?
JOHNNY GALECKI:
When I first came aboard The Master Cleanse, purely as a producer, the writer-director, Bobby Miller, had another actor in mind. I gave him fair warning that if, for whatever reason, there might be a scheduling conflict with this actor, that I was not going to play his lead role. I had no interest in wearing both hats. There was a scheduling conflict with the initial actor, and everyone just ignored my cardinal rule. [Laughs.] [Bobby] called me and said, “Well, you have a wardrobe fitting tomorrow morning!” So, it was not the premeditation of playing the role whatsoever. I was as thrilled as I was terrified to take on those reins, but it wasn’t by design.

I hesitate, then, to call it an accident that you also starred in this film, but…
Feel free to call it an accident! It very much was. I endeavor to be a creative producer, and so a lot of what I had to contribute fortunately happened before we got to shooting. Being a producer was a bit of a distraction from the acting and some days vice versa.

Trailer Courtesy of Bobby Miller:

Still, at least tonally, this is a very different project for you. How do you, as an actor, prepare to make the jump from a mainstream comedy series like The Big Bang Theory to a low-budget indie movie?
I must admit it’s a welcome change. As much as I love The Big Bang Theory and playing Leonard 200-some episodes in, I think playing a departure from that character only serves that character once you return to him. The actors that I admire, that’s always been a part of their careers, that sense of unpredictability and diversity. If you liken it to a musician that’s been playing the same type of music for nine years, you jump at the chance to play in some sort of different genre. It’s much more exciting or liberating than it is even scary or challenging. But, goodness, I’ve been lonely before. That’s really the number one word to describe [my character] Paul Berger in The Master Cleanse. The poor guy is searingly lonely, and I think that’s universally relatable; I had plenty to pull from. The difference, and one of the things I really liked about the character, is that he’s not really aware of that. I’d like to think that I’m pretty self-aware; at least I try to be. [Laughs.] I can’t imagine anyone who would say differently. In Paul’s case, one of the things I loved about him is that he’s kind of emotionally arrested at this traumatic point from a previous relationship, and it’s kind of analogous to the slowly boiling frog. His life kind of unravels so slowly that he doesn’t even realize it’s in freaking shambles, and that’s fun to play.

How do you think your experience as an actor informed your work as a producer on The Master Cleanse? Were you more in step with certain aspects of production or was this a learning experience for you as well?
You can never predict how an audience is going to respond. But with 300-plus live studio audience episodes under my belt and dozens of theater productions in Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles, I mighthave a little bit — and please use italics when I say “might” — have a little bit more of an inkling than some other folks in the business of how an audience might react.

The much talked about Sundance 2015 Film Opener, The Bronze, written and  executive produced by Winston and Melissa Rauch will debut in Spring 2016.

Directed by Bryan Buckely, making his directorial debut,  the film was executive produced by Melissa and Winston Rauch, Mark Duplass, Jay Duplass, Ryan Buckley, Michael C. Cuddy and Matt Lefebvre with Stephanie Lanhoff producing.  The Bronze stars Melissa Rauch and also stars Gary Cole, Thomas Middleditch, Sebastian Stan, Hailey Lu Richardson and Cecily Strong.

The Bronze is about a former Olympic bronze-medal gymnast who after returning home, her life becomes washed up and she elevates herself to the town until a new younger gymnast starts to threaten her status.  Rauch plays Hope Greggory (a Tanya Harding-like personna) who is a former Olympian living with her father played by Gary Cole (Office Space).   After basking in her former glory, Hope turns into a lazy and foul-mouthed person, trying to regain her former glory in all the wrong ways.   She drinks heavily, takes bong rips and then heads out of the house in her warm-up suit to face the day.   Without any other training or career goals, she manages to stumble across an opportunity that may just be what she is seeking, or is it?   She is asked to coach a local rising gymnast.   But as the young athlete begins to gain her own glory, will jealousy rear its ugly green head?

Five-time Emmy® Award nominee Jesse Tyler Ferguson who plays Mitchell Pritchett in ABC’s Modern Family will be returning to Broadway this Spring to play 40 different and outrageous characters in a one-man play written by Becky Mode called Fully Committed.

Fully Committed is about a harried reservations clerk at a highly demanded restaurant, as well as the series of guests clamoring for a table as they wait in line to get in the establishment and more.  “You think you’re having a bad day? Meet Sam. He works the red‐hot reservation line at one of New York’s trendiest restaurants, where the best food inspires the worst behavior. Coercion, petty threats, bribes, histrionics—a cast of desperate callers, all brought to life by Ferguson, will stop at nothing to land a prime reservation, or the right table in Becky Mode’s hilarious and delicious comedy. Amid the barrage, Sam has his own problems to deal with. While juggling scheming socialites, name‐dropping wannabes, fickle celebrities and egomaniacal bosses, can he still manage to look out for himself?”

Jason Moore will direct the production,  produced by Barbara Whitman and Patrick Catullo, which will begin previews April 2, 2016 and will open on April 25, 2015 at the Lyceum Theatre for a limited engagement through July 24, 2105.

Fully Committed originally was developed by David Stone opening September 30, 1999 at the Off-Broadway Vineyard starring Mark Setlock.   Achieving a huge success, the play was then moved to the Cherry Lane Theatre on Broadway where it ran 700 performances.   Productions have taken place around the world including London, Paris, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Mode plans to update Fully Committed to reflect “today’s foodie and restaurant culture, which has only intensified since the piece made its debut,” according to press notes.  The play willb e based on characters created by Mode and the Setlock, who originally played the roles, from their experiences workign in the world of the high-end restaurant industry.

Ferguson was last seen on Broadway in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

“I’m beyond thrilled to be making my return to Broadway in a piece I love so much. Becky Mode’s hilarious play Fully Committed perfectly captures a genius story at the intersection of food, entertainment and pop culture—and I’m really looking forward to start working with Jason on all of these incredibly funny characters,” said Ferguson in a statement. “It’s also a dream to be reuniting with Patrick and Barbara who helped bring The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee to Broadway. It feels like a homecoming and I know we are all going to have a ball putting this show together!”

“It’s so exciting to be working with Jesse and Becky on Fully Committed,” added Moore. “I’ve been searching for my next Broadway project, and this is it—Jesse is a remarkable actor and comedian, and Becky’s script is hysterical.”

The creative team will be announced soon.

Tickets are priced between $75-$145 and are on sale now.

Universal Pictures and Legendary Pictures is bringing Blizzard’s wildly popular video game Warcraft to the big screen in June 10, 2016.   On Nov 6 the first official trailer was released (see below).

Warcraft is produced by Charles Roven via his Atlas Entertainment Banner and directed by Duncan Jones, starring Travis Fimmel, Dominic Cooper, Robert Kazinsky, Toby Kebbell, Ben Foster, Ruth Negga, Daniel Wu and Paula Patton.

Warcraft portrays the origin story of the initial encounters between the humans and the orcs, with an emphasis upon both the Alliance’s and the Horde’s sides of their conflict. Featuring characters such as Durotan and Lothar, the film will take place in a variety of locations established in the video game series.

Martin Freeman (John Watson) & Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) Image: BCC

BBC One’s Sherlock has a special set in Victorian England where Benedict Cumberbatch’s ‘Sherlock Holmes ‘and Martin Freeman’s ‘John Watson’ are preparing for war.

The latest trailer of Sherlock shows the duo heading down a crowded 19th century England where the streets are narrow, foggy and full of dark alleyways.   The two detectives discuss ghosts from their pasts and Watson grows irate when Sherlock refuses to wear the deerstalker hat.

“Every great cause has martyrs,” Cumberbatch’s Holmes says in the trailer. “Every war has suicide missions, and make no mistake: this is war.”

We have a plan…we practically reduced our cast to tears by telling them about the plan,” Moffat said at Comic-Con last July before rabid fans long awaiting the fourth season of the popular series. that is due out in early 2016.

British musician, Jamie Lawson was inspired by The Big Bang Theory while watching ‘The Prom Equivalency’  (Season 8, Episode 8) by listening to the words Sheldon Cooper spoke to Amy which led him to write ‘The Only Conclusion.’ “Basically Sheldon is struggling to understand his feelings with Amy Farrah-Fowler and he says something like ‘I’ve gone through all the options. The only conclusion is love’ and that was him admitting he was able to do that. I thought that was brilliant ‘The only conclusion is love’. I think I went straight to the piano and started writing that”. It’s just weird how things come about,” said Lawson.

Lawson said he feels ‘The Only Conclusion’ is probably his favorite song on the album because it was inspired while watching the episode on The Big Bang Theory.   “People are going to be very upset by that” Lawson joked when interviewed recently by Noise11.

Below is the scene that inspired him, clip courtesy of ©2015 CBS Broadcasting, Inc.  All Rights Reserved.

Lawson signed to Ed Sheeran’s new Gingerbread Man records label, the first artist to do so and his new album will be the first release for the label.   Lawson has previously released Last Night Stars album through Allotment Reocrdings in 2003; The Pull of the Moon through Lookout Mountain in 2010; a single ‘Wasn’t Expecting That’ through Universal Music Ireland in March 2011 and then an album under the same title in April 2011 through Lookout Mountain.   In September 2011 he released ‘Lucy Rocks’ single from the same album.   In April 2015 Lawson re-released his single “Wasn’t ExpectingThat’ through Atlantic Records.   In opened for One Direction for three nights of their 2015 ‘On the Road Again Tour.’

Lawson’s ‘The Only Conclusion’ will be featured on his new album, Jamie Lawson which is due to release October 9.

Lawson was asked if anyone from The Big Bang Theory has approached him about using the song in a future episode or on the show.  His response was “That would be amazing. Wouldn’t that be amazing?” but thus far because it has yet to be released, no one from the show is even aware of the song.   Our hope is that the show will learn of the  song and perhaps find a way to fit it into an episode!

You can pre-order Lawson’s new album on Amazon, iTunes or Google Play.

Sofia Vergara as Peg Bundy? Julie Bowen as Mary Tyler Moore? Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet as ‘Breaking Bad’s’ Walter White and Jesse Pinkman? As it contends for a sixth consecutive best comedy win, the series pays tribute to six television classics.

This story first appeared in the Sept. 25 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. To receive the magazine, click here to subscribe.

“My dream was getting Ed O’Neill to reprise his Married … With Children character, Al Bundy, with his current co-star Sofia Vergara as Peg Bundy,” says THR awards and special projects editor Stacey Wilson Hunt, who, with assistance from 20th Century Fox Television, helped re-create several beloved series on THR’s list of Hollywood’s 100 Favorite TV Shows (page 116) with the stars of Modern Family. O’Neill’s heart was set on Tony Soprano, but after some coaxing, he eventually agreed. In the end, the Dunphys paid tribute to six classics, including tableaus from Cheers, I Dream of Jeannie, Frasier, The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Breaking Bad. All were shot Sept. 2 on the Fox lot during a five-hour session that Hunt says was “incredibly calm.” Adds THR creative director Shanti Marlar, who visited the set, “This cast is a well-oiled machine and was really into the idea.”
