Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion’s ‘Con Man’ Began Shooting June 25!

Crowdfunded project Con Man, launched by Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion (both Firefly alums) are producing.   Tudyk wrote and is directing the series, as well as starring in the series.   Fillikoin is producing along with starring in the series which include other Firefly alums Sean Maher and Gina Torres, as well as James Gunn, Seth Gren, Felicia Day, and Amy Acker.   PJ Haarsma is also producing.

The series will feature personalities, luminaries, comic book stores, and characters that both Tudyk and Fillion have encountered over their years in the sci-fi community and convention circuit.  Both men felt they had a great deal of experience from attending conventions around the world that they wanted to share those through Con Man, feeling that sci-fi fans changed their lives and they wanted to give them a chance to see a new view of the world they built.

Today was the first day of shooting the project with Wil Wheaton guest starring.   Tudyk plays Wray Nerely, the co-star of the sci-fi series ‘Spectrum’ (in which he played the spaceship’s pilot) — which was cancelled before its time and eventually became a cult classic beloved by fans. Fillion will portray his good friend Jack Moore, who starred in the series and has gone on to become a major celebrity. While Jack enjoys the life of an A-lister, Wray tours the sci-fi circuit as a guest of conventions, comic book stores, and lots of pop culture events. The show will feature all the weird and crazy things that happen to Wray along the way at these events.  No word on what role Wheaton had in the episode or whether he will be a regular, but he did leave this cryptic message on his Instagram.

On Wednesday, June 17 at 9pm ET/PT, viewers can tune in for a new episode of GSN’s body painting competition series “Skin Wars,” featuring “Iron Chef” Cat Cora as a guest judge. On the new episode, “Sweet & Savory,” host Rebecca Romijn makes a surprise entrance to kick off a dessert-themed challenge for the remaining 11 artists.  Later, Cat Cora brings her expertise to the judges’ table as the artists take on one of the most demanding challenges in body painting: camouflaging their model to blend into intricately detailed buffet spreads of fruit, candy, sushi, tacos, etc.

Television’s first-ever body painting competition show and GSN’s most watched original series ever, “Skin Wars” seeks to find the most skillful, accomplished and versatile body painter in America. In its second season, twelve contestants will compete in elaborate body painting challenges to avoid elimination and win over the approval of judges, including legendary entertainer RuPaul Charles and body painting icons Craig Tracy and Robin Slonina.

The winner of “Skin Wars” season two will receive a $100,000 cash prize, an all-expense paid trip for two to the World Body Painting Festival in Austria, and a nationally-distributed Royal and Langnickel custom brush collection with their name on it. Natalie Fletcher of Bend, Oregon, was named the series’ first winner in season 1.

Voting started this morning at 9 AM PT and will end June 26 at 10 PM PT.

Nominations will be announced from the SilverScreen Theater at the Pacific Design Center  at 8:30 AM PT July 16th live-streamed from Emmys.com.    Final round voting from the list of nominees will begin August 17 and end at 10:00 PM on August 28.

The 67th Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Andy Samberg, airs live Sunday, September 20 (8:00 PM ET / 5:00 PM PT) on FOX and will originate from the Microsoft Theater (formerly Nokia Theatre) in Los Angeles. Don Mischer will serve as executive producer for the telecast.

The eligibility period for submission was for the period between June 1, 2014 and May 31, 2015, with Primtime being between 6 PM and 2 AM.   All programming, with the exception of web-based programs, must air on broadcast or cable television reaching 51% of national market.

All nominees must meet certain guidelines and have paid a fee to the academy.

Voting happens by peer groups (i.e., writer to writer, actor to actor, etc.)  which are members eligible to determine 5-6 nominations per category.  Exceptions would be animated or documentary genre where awards are decided on by those peer groups.  Emmys use a raw number system (not system ranked) for determining the nominees.

The Los Angeles Film Festival is currently well underway (held June 10-18, 2015) and the stars are coming out to participate at the festival. CBS stars are among those present including Criminal Minds‘ Matthew Gray Gubler, Supergirl’s Melissa Benoist,  and NCIS: Los Angeles‘ Eric Christian Olsen.

Gubler, Benoist and Olsen attended to highlight the film Band of Robbers in which both co-star.

Band of Robbers is co-written and co-directed by Aaron Nee and Adam Nee, is about Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn who are grown men, still searching for the hidden treasure that has eluded them since childhood.   When Huck is released from prison he hopes to leave his criminal past behind. But his lifelong friend and corrupt cop, Tom, has other plans, having formed the Band of Robbers, a group of misfits dedicated to locating the hidden treasure that eluded the boys in childhood.

The film is produced by Torn Sky Entertainment and stars Kyle Gallner (American Sniper) as Huck Finn, Adam Nee (The Last Romantic) as Tom Sawyer, with Gubler playing Joe Harper, Olsen playing Sid Sawyer and Melissa Benoist( Supergirl, Whiplash) as Becky Thatcher.

Band of Robbers officially released June 13, 2015 at the festival in the United States territory. Season two of “Salem” returns with 13 episodes at the dawn of a Witch War, and the town’s ruthless leading witch, Mary Sibley, has just completed a legendary supernatural ritual that unleashed a devastating plague on the unsuspecting citizens of Salem.  As death and disease continue to spread through the war-torn village, Mary must face off against adversaries old and new, from within Salem and beyond, who are vying for her throne.

Will Freedom Ring for Daniel? Independence Day Marathon Allows Viewers to Catch Up on Entertainment Weekly’s #2 Show of 2014,

SundanceTV announced today that the highly anticipated third season of its original drama “Rectify” will premiere Thursday, July 9th at 10:00pm ET/PT. The critically praised series, which was recently honored with the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award, was also cited by Entertainment Weekly as the #2 Television Show of 2014 and landed on over a dozen “Best of 2014” lists, including TIME, Los Angeles Times, Variety, Huffington Post, Vox,  Grantland and more.

Just in time for summer binge-watching, all 16 episodes from the past two seasons will be available for viewers to consume in advance of the season three premiere during “Binge on the Fourth of July: The ‘Rectify’ DVR Marathon,” which will begin Saturday, July 4th at 2:00pm ET/PT. The marathon will kick off with the series’ season one premiere followed by episodes airing back-to-back in order through the season two finale. In addition, AMC, SundanceTV’s sister network, will be running a late-night marathon of both seasons of “Rectify” during the week of June 15th, to encourage audiences to set their DVRs and provide them with another catch-up viewing option.

“Rectify” follows the life of Daniel Holden (Aden Young), who returns to his small hometown in Georgia after serving 19 years on death row. Having spent his entire adult life waiting to die, Daniel must now try to find a way to cope with his past and forge a “normal” life with a future before him. Daniel, who is still struggling with adapting to the routine aspects of modern life, affects everyone whom he comes in contact with from his very fractured family, to those working to protect him and those working against him on the side of law and order, and those in his hometown who never knew him, but now, upon his return, curiously seek complicated adult relationships with him.

Season three of the hour-long drama picks up immediately where season two left off, on the very afternoon of Daniel’s plea deal.  Will the deal be accepted?  Will Daniel be forced to leave town?  And when the body of a missing person is discovered, law enforcement once again turns to him for answers.  As Daniel’s devoted sister Amantha (Abigail Spencer) attempts to live her own life, she is given an opportunity at a local store that for the first time in a long time has nothing to do with her brother.  Meanwhile, Tawney (Adelaide Clemens) and Ted Jr. (Clayne Crawford) struggle to see if their marriage has a future by delving into their pasts for answers. Janet (J. Smith Cameron) and Ted Sr. (Bruce McKinnon), also under pressure from Daniel’s actions, will find that their marriage is put to the test as well.
