We reported earlier that Josh Boone had been given the green light by Warner Bros Studios to move forward with development of a quartet franchise of Stephen King’s book The Stand. Today we report that it appears that Matthew McConaughey may be playing the villainous Randall Flagg in the post-apocalyptic thriller. The story is about a post-apocalyptic population that survives a deadly plague that wiped out about 99% of the world’s population. There are two camps that are established, one good and one evil.
McConaughey would be the “dark” leader that sets up camp in Las Vegas in the story, where Flagg is a cowboy with supernatural powers who establishes a power base in Las Vegas to fight the “good” survivors who have set up camp in Boulder, Colorado.
McConaughey is highly sought after by production teams right now after winning an Oscar for his role in The Dallas Buyers Club and is potentially up again for another nod for his role in Interstellar. He also plays the tortured Lousiana copy in the TV Series True Detective.
We have also reported that Jim Parsons of The Big Bang Theory, very much wants to be a part of this project. Hopefully there is still plenty of room for him to be able to be cast in a role or participate in the production in some way. Stay tuned and we hope to be able to report more on cast and production team as they move forward.
