ABC picked up five new dramas, initiating its 2015-2016 season. They picked up Quantico, LA Crime, Runner, Of Kings and Prophets and Mix, all in the drama genre.
Quantico, as the name gives way, follows a group of young FBI recruits who are training in Virginia. We learn about the recruits through a series of flashbacks that help unfold their hidden pasts. While the audience discovers more about each of these recruits, they will find one of them is a sleeper terrorist who is responsible for one of the greatest terror attacks on America since 9/11. Quantico will be executive produced by Mark Gordon Company and is written by Josh Safran who is known for bringing us Gossip Girl and Smash.
LA Crime digs into Los Angeles history exploring sex, politics and pop culture across eras. Season one will be set in 1980’s Sunset Strip, which was an era heavily influenced by rock n’roll’s coke-infused world. We will see two officers in pursuit of a Bonnie & Clyde killing team. Subsequent seasons will explore different eras. Mandeville Television is producing the series with Steven Baigelman writing the pilot.
Runner focuses on the life of a woman who seemingly lives a perfect life until she begins to dig into her past. Through a trail of lies, her life is turned upside down, leading to the underworld of cartels and illegal gun trade between the United States and Mexico. Michael Cooney, Peter Horton, Ian Sander, Kim Moses, and Jon Cowan will Executive Produce the project for 20th Century Television with the pilot being penned by Michael Cooney. Jon Cowan will be the showrunner for the series.
Of Kings and Prophets will unfold story of faith, ambition and betrayal during the Biblical era from three perspectives: a king who is battle weary; a begrudged prophet; and a young shepherd who is quite resourceful. The series is from Adam Cooper & Bill Collage, who penned Exodus: Gods and Kings. Of Kings and Prophets pilot will be Executive Produced from Reza Aslan, Jason Reed and Mahyad Tousi.
Mix is described as a dramedy that will explore life realities of modern day families (multicultural, multigenerational which are built through divorces, affairs and adoptions) through the perspective of a family restaurant which is at a crossroads. Mix will be executive produced by Jennifer Cecil, Le Train Train, Rashida Jones and Will McCormack. The pilot will be penned by Jennifer Cecil.
