- Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer talked about the investment into Hunan TV, explaining “They’re in film production, distribution, advertising, location-based entertainment business, they are in TV in a major way, they are in the cable business. They stepped up, and we stepped up, and at a certain point we said we were going exclusive.” According to deal terms, Hunan TV, a wholly owned subsidiary of TIK Films will co-finance qualifying Lionsgate features for the next three years. “The minute this deal was signed, they were already investing in a whole bunch of movies and they will distribute those movies and co-finance the movies they mentioned. We’ve created a template [for] working together,” said Feltheimer. Some upcoming projects that are seeing the benefit are Gods of Egypt, Now You See Me 2, The Last Witch Hunter, Sicario and Age of Adaline. Based on the deal, Hunan TV has an annual cap at $125M a year for a total investment of $375Mil. “China is for sure the number two film market, last month in was number one,” Feltheimer said. “In terms of core business growth, we’ve got to be here and figure it out. We have to be part of the scene in China for us to be successful over the next five years, and I’m hoping this deal will be a large part of this.” Read More

His grandmother also made an appearance in the film as “the grandmother”. Based on a shot that won a prize at SXSW in 2014, Krisha was shot in nine days at his parents’ home and the film included family and friends that are not pro actors other than his aunt who plays a woman with a dark past. The film is shot very much in a horror-thriller fashion, influenced by films like Rosemary’s Baby, Repulsion, and A Woman Under the Influence with the entire family watching The Shining again the night before the shoot began. Upon winning, Shults brought his entire group up to the stage for the acceptance and let his aunt and lead star have a few words,“I know you’re all sick of seeing me cry,” the real Krisha said. “What I’m going to say is the people working on this movie became a family. If you ever want to create a film with as much power, turn your team into your family.”
