Many of your favorite sitcom stars take a break from filming their regular shows in summer but are often busy with other engagements or projects. This series: On Hiatus follows some fan favorites until they return to work on their new seasons in August 2015.

Actress Mayim Bialik, known for her role in the current popular television situation comedy series “The Big Band Theory” as well as for being a teen actress in another TV situation comedy “Blossom,” will be speaking on her life in Hollywood, academia and Judaism in “An Evening With Mayim Bialik” May 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the David Posnack Jewish Community Center, courtesy of Temple Beth Israel in Sunrise.
“I am very much looking forward to coming to Sunrise and South Florida to talk. My grandparents were from Sunrise and I spent a lot of time visiting them,” said Bialik in a phone interview from her home in Los Angeles. went on to earn her doctorate in neuroscience (2007).
Bialik who after her series Blossom ended in 1995, earned an undergraduate degree in neuroscience, Hebrew studies and Jewish studies culminated her academic career by earning a doctorate in neuroscience (2007). She tells the Sun-Sentinel reporter, Marvin Glassman that, “I was not a teen actress who took my career for granted. The set at “Blossom” had no drugs or any kind of problems and my parents kept me grounded. I did not think of myself as a star with privileges and wanted to continue my education to set new goals for my life.”
The Temple Beth Israel, the temple committee decided to open the event to a larger audience at Posnack JCC, with discount tickets to Posnack day school students, temple members and children under 18.
“We are delighted to have Mayim coming to our community for this amazing event,” said Rabbi Hector Epelbaum of Temple Beth Israel.
“In light of so much negativity and poor role models in Hollywood, we are honored to present to the community someone who is not just a star on the number one rated comedy show today, but someone who serves as a Jewish role model for our children.”
“It is important to share with the greater community Mayim’s positive message about her Jewish values. In addition, Mayim’s long priority of putting an emphasis on education, family and living an observant life makes her the ideal person to speak to our community’s youth,” said Epelbaum.

Mayim Bialik Returns to Florida.
Temple Beth Israel presents an evening with Mayim Bialik, author and star of the hit television series Big Bang Theory, on May 14, 2015 at 7:30 pm in the Orlove Auditorium in Davie, Florida. Bialik has visited Florida on several occasions including a stop in June 2013 as a Texas Instruments Brand Ambassador promoting STEM at Brookside Middle School’s Tech-Active classroom and again in April 2014 for an Florida International University Lecture Series.
Her latest visit is billed as her only South Florida appearance this year on behalf of Temple Beth Isreal of Sunrise, Florida. The event will be coupled with a champagne reception prior to the speaking engagement at $150 for non-members and TBI members may purchase tickets for $118. The speaking event only tickets are available for $36 or $40 at the door.
