Craig Johnson, Creator and Director of The Skeleton Twins, is currently developing a new teen comedy project called Alex Strangelove with STX Entertainment.
Alex Strangelove, the script written by Johnson, is about a high school senior Alex Strangelove who is determined to lose his virginity. He finds that his patient girlfriend is more than eager about his quest, and he is being cheered on by his rowdy friends. The quest leads Alex into an exploration of modern manhood.
Currently STX Entertainment and Johnson are in advanced talks with Red Hour Films to produce the project. Red Hour Films is Ben Stiller’s shingle, which has a longstanding first-look deal at Fox. Red Hour has produced mainly comedies including Zoolander, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, Blades of Glory, Tropic Thunder and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
Red Hour also announced in November 2015 that it ws partnering with Bold Films to produce a slate of new movies, TV and digital projects. It has also announced that Weinstock was joining Red Hour at that point. Red Hour is operated by Still and Stuart Cornfeld.
STX Entertainment is also in talks with producers Nicky weinstock and Jared Goldman about Alex Strangelove project.
Johnson has a dramedy, Wilson, starring Woddy Harrelson, Laura Dern, Judy Greer and Cheryl Hines currently in post-production at Fox Searchlight. His film, The Skeleton Twins, starring Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig and Luke Wilson, received the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at Sundance Film Festival in 2014.
