Peter Capaldi of Doctor Who received a letter from a 9-year old austic boy, Thomas, who wrote about his ailing grandmother who was dying. After he sent the letter, the Thomas’ grandmother did indeed pass away and he received a response from Capaldi just as the family was preparing for the funeral. The response came in the form of a video message to the boy (see below). Thomas’ father uploaded the video to YouTube with the following note about the video response, “it helped [Thomas] to deal with his grief in a profound way.”
“Thank you so much for your letter. I really enjoyed getting it,” Capaldi says in the video. “You see when Clara and I are traveling around in time and space, sometimes bad things happen to us. And you know what, Thomas? Some times sad things happen to us, too, so it’s nice to know some one like you out there who is on our side. And you should know, that we’re on your side, too.”
