The Big Bang Theory‘s Kunal Nayyar was honored the 6th Annual Asian Awards held at the Grosvenor House in London on April 8, 2016. The event was hosted by comedian Alastair McGowan.
Previous winners have included Sir Ben Kingsley, Jackie Chan, Sachin Tendulkar, Freddie Mercury, AR Rahman, Amitabh Bachchan, Zayn Malik, Nicole Scherzinger, Norah Jones, Gok Wan, Ravi Shankar, Anupham Kher, George Alagiah, Jack Ma, Ratan Tata, Vijay Mallya, Amir Khan, Russell Peters, Bruce Lee and Asha Bhosle.
Asian Wealth Magazine sponsors The Asian Awards where the intent is to honor only the very highest levels of achievement from within the worldwide Asian community. The prestigious event is the only event that pays tribute to Asian success across all walks of life; emphasizing inspiring achievements and highlighting inspirational role models in the fields of business, sport, entertainment, philanthropy and popular arts and culture.
The charity partner for the event this year is Global Citizen, the world’s largest digital community working to end extreme poverty – a platform of stories, ideas and actions that inspire and create social change for the world’s poorest people. The funds raised at the 6th Asian Awards will go toward Global Citizen.
Nayyar not only met 2015 Nobel Prize Winner Art McDonald this past week while on the set of The Big Bang Theory, but at tonight’s event he had the privilege to meet a second Nobel Prize winner and fellow honoree, Shuki Nakamura, one of the 2014 recipients of the Nobel Prize in Physics.

This award will be presented to a sporting star who has not only reached the pinnacle of achievement in their chosen field – but who best represents the ideals of sportsmanship and a determination to reach new heights. Judges will be looking for an individual whose sporting achievements are world class, who is a respected ambassador for their sport, and who has demonstrated a passion for excellence throughout their career.
Business Leader of the Year – Winner: Sri Prakash Lohia
This award will recognise the individual who has demonstrated exceptional business acumen, embedded a culture of innovation and improvement, and communicated a clear strategic vision company-wide to deliver outstanding commercial performance over the last 18 months. As employees worldwide look for signs of confidence and reassurance, this award celebrates the recession-defying individual who navigated a path to success in challenging times.
Outstanding Contribution to the Community – Winner: Rami Ranger
Under constant pressure to deliver higher levels of service with ever-decreasing resources, the leading lights of the public sector are those able to create a culture of improvement and efficiency. This award will be presented to an outstanding public servant who has achieved organizational transformation through ground breaking strategies, models and philosophies. This category will encompass politics, social welfare and the community.
Social Entrepreneur of the Year – Winner: Vikram Patel
This award will be presented to an individual who has created an enterprise that focuses on social capital, revolutionizing the intent of business to provide a service or product to a disadvantaged community or to support purely civic goals. Judges will only consider leaders of organizations with a proven track record of delivering on core objectives, and where profit has been re-invested to improve levels of service and reach.
Entrepreneur of the Year – Winner: Anil Agarwal
Nominees for this award will have a proven track record of establishing one or several successful owner-led businesses. As a champion of Asian entrepreneurialism, this individual will possess qualities ranging from clear leadership and sound management to innovation, determination, ambition, and entrepreneurial flair. The winner of this award will be an example of the very best in entrepreneurialism.
The Founders Award – Winner: Mother Teresa
This accolade, chosen by the co-founders of the Asian Awards, will recognize an individual from history or present day who has had a major impact on the world. Judges will consider the global significance of this individual’s contribution and legacy, and how widely this is understood and appreciated outside their sphere of activity. Previous honorees of the Founders Award include political activist Ahmed Kathrada, acoustics supremo Dr. Amar Bose and legendary icons Freddie Mercury and Bruce Lee.
