SundanceTV will debut their next original scripted drama “Babylon” on Thursday, January 8 at 10pm ET/PT. The six-part series, created and executive produced by Academy Award® winner Danny Boyle and starring indie darling Brit Marling (Another Earth, Sound of My Voice, The East) and James Nesbitt (The Hobbit, The Missing) is a biting workplace satire set inside a modern police force and revolves around an earnest PR executive who attempts to modernize London’s law enforcement culture only to discover her certainties shattered and herself undermined in the murky realpolitik of contemporary policing.
In the premiere episode, a riot breaks out at a youth prison, causing the private security firm that oversees the facility to seek assistance from police. New media PR maven Liz Garvey, an American, seizes the opportunity to publicize the force’s opposition to the privatization of public sector responsibilities. On his last day before transferring to another unit, police officer Robbie finds himself in danger when his team gets deployed to the prison riot. While trailing Robbie, a documentary cameraman, Matt, spots a secret liaison within the unit. Armed Response officer Warwick learns of a bounty on his head when Liz releases footage of him shooting an unarmed assailant. His worried partners Tony and Banjo think they may have just the thing to help Warwick’s shredded nerves.
The series is additionally created and executive produced by Robert Jones (The Usual Suspects, Dirty Pretty Things), Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong (Peep Show, The Old Guys, Fresh Meat) and produced by Jones and Derrin Schlesinger (This Is England, Southcliffe, Four Lions). The series is penned by Sam Bain, Jesse Armstrong and Jon Brown.
